What are the things that annoy you as a forum admin? I guess spam would be kind of annoying to me, but nothing about running a forum ever really annoyed me. If a member annoys you, do you ban them?

Spam is normal on all sites bit if you have an good spam defence and a good system setup then spam can be stopped or even stopped at the signup page. IPS has that already so I always been relaxed since the start however when I was on SMF I had allot of spam. But that's not the annoying. What got me annoyed is when working on things and you have an block wall and you can't get around it, the time you do promotion and years at work for nothing! and then there is unless traffic that most sites don't have anymore as things are changing for forums based.

Crazy people to mention, at times I had laughed. Like just last week and member joined my site and PMed me asking for help that he wanted to see how I did my article pages and he said where he was from and saying that he has no money and wondering I would send him the files over (there are plugins but my page was made out of pages and blogs). I never replied. People joining peoples forums asking help or money for there forum!! really?? then you got to think they are legit people.

Trolls can be really annoying, fanatics as-well.

People can sometimes be way too fanatical about something to the point that they push away people with different opinions, often just waiting on the side to step in, and often, ignoring what people are really saying and just focusing on what they care about.

Spam is annoying, however, I don't get too worked up about it. I guess my impatience is annoying because I'm never satisfied where I am, I'm always hungry for the next step and find it hard to enjoy the present state. Working with SEO and achieving even a decent rank is another grueling task that I guess I could say somewhat annoys me. :bluesquaretongue:

EDIT: OH, and paying for services to support your website that turns out to be not as described or unhelpful in the long run. Also, unsuccessful advertising campaigns. :banghead:

I can live with spam because there is a way to stop it, technically speaking. What I cannot stand is the trolling especially when the trolling has a tendency to ignite a violent reaction. Sometimes it is really sad to see a post of a decent forum member to be soliciting for some respect from the troll who is also a long time member. In fairness to me, I would message the offender as a way of warning but he would be blocked if he would persist in the trolling.

PS. I used to be the overall in charge of the forum of our office website.

I don't own a forum, however, I participate on a lot of forums. I think members posting one liners could be the most annoying thing for a forum admin.

I own a handful of blogs. As a blog owner, the most annoying thing is when I receive comments with a link to phishing sites or porn sites.

As both an admin and a user, what irritates me the most are the users who are constantly posting, but contributing nothing of value. They're just doing it to raise their post count. For example, another user posts a question and they respond, "I don't know the answer to this, but good luck!" Not only is that unhelpful, it's obnoxious. If you don't know the answer, leave the thread to someone who can answer!

There's a guy like this on ProBoards' support forum, and although he's gotten better since an admin got on his case, I still feel incensed almost every time I see him post, like residual frustration. There is also a group of older users—who I refer to as "The Peanut Gallery"—who will pop into support or feature announcement threads and state their opinion as though anyone asked for it. UGH :poop:

Drama annoys me. And yet drama thrills me because I know we'll get more traffic to the site as people watch the action unfold.

It annoys me when no one wants to step up to help out with things that the site needs.

It annoys me when members come from another forum complaining about how stringent the rules were but then want us to tighten our rules to satisfy them. No.

Posts that say "I agree" or "Yes" with no valuable content added annoys me.

Wow, I didn't know I was annoyed by so many things until now. 😱

I find that drama has a ripple effect which drives people away. It might help in the "short term", but it's almost always disastrous in the long term. Case in point, one of FP's biggest competitors.

I don't know FP's competitors but you nailed it about drama helping short term but ultimately it drives members away.

What kind of drama do you have on your site? We have hurt feelings.

Well, spam is a done deal due to a little trick I use. However, though, on one forum, SWC, the only one with pretty outspoken members, the problem is that rules are made - but the rules are not enforceable. If they were enforced, the regulars would leave!

1. Spam
2. Not making money
3. Trolls
4. Lethargy to write content
5. Lack of activity on forum/blog

I am not an admin but I am on a few forums and yes, spam annoys me. Spammers seem to know when admins are inactive and have a hey day. Another thing I hate is trolls, they can make the forum experience very distasteful for everyone. I get bored when the activity level is low on the forum. I hate posters/members who repeat the same crap everyday without adding value to the thread or the discussion that is going on there.

The thing which annoys me most is why did i become an admin without understanding or learning the forum world. Thought running forum and getting members would be easy.

Hmm, people who want so bad to be a moderator that they go out of their way to be obnoxious. We don't and won't give moderator positions to people who beg for them. I have had one bad experience of giving a position to someone who was super eager. Never again. If I want a new moderator, I will approach a suitable active member and ask them directly. Here on forum promotion it makes sense to have open applications. Most members already have experience with their own sites, so it's a different ballpark.

On the old forum, I had a mental blacklist of who would never ever be a mod. One of those people was a good friend, but he was way too power hungry. He would have alienated the rest of the staff. lol.

I have a sense of humour, so most crazy pots who disrupted the site over the years, I've just learned to laugh at it. I might be angry at the time, then I think about it later and see the funny side, you have to. Since the new forum, we get very few weirdos lol. We no longer have excellent Google visability, so a lot less sign ups. That was something we took for granted before the old site was sold I guess.
