if the AV is turned on whilst scanning with malwarebytes or something similar, they can interfere with eachother. 😛
That is false,I have avast always on and scan with malware bytes ,nothing bad has happened. I do it all the time at school and at work.( I am a Comptia A+ computer technician. and a student training for my network+ and security + certs)

As long as you do not have two real time protection anti virus or anti spyware running at the same time or scanning at the same time no confliction will happen.
not gonna argue, lets agree to disagree mate 🙂

There is nothing to argue over. Running a scan with something with malwarebytes while your real time protection is on will not cause any problems. You can ask any security expert and will get the same answer. I am not trying to argue,I am just trying to inform you.

Aslong as you do not have two real time protection programs running at the same time nothing bad will happen.

I don't need any anti-virus because I have a Mac. 😛 When I was on PC I used AVG for 4 years! Greatest free anti-virus ever.
Oh really I guess all those stories on Macs getting infected is not true.. You do need an anti virus bro.

Mac has been getting new infections left and right. The latest to hit the news is the Mac Defender rouge software.

I formerly used Avast! but have since switched to AVG.
Why would you switch from a great anti virus to such a horrible one. AVG is probably the worst free anti virus you can get. It has way to many false positives, its detection rate is horrible, and its been going downhill for awhile.

I highly suggest you switch back to avast or try a better anti virus. MSE and Avira are two other great free anti virus programs.

I use the paid version of McAfee and let me tell you, if you're thinking about purchasing it, think again. I'm very disappointed with their services. First, automatic updates stops working by giving me an error message. Then, McAfee can't delete certain viruses that I've received from visiting websites webmasters were selling.

After it expires, I'm not going to renew it. I'm going to go with the paid version of KasperSky or AVG. I've never had any major problems with KasperSky before and AVG is fine. Not planning to use Avast anytime soon.

I would never recommend McAfee. First of all from when I usually install softwares it wants you to install it as an addition to the installation which is a mistake of them. From then I didn't even think about downloading it.

I've used both AVG and Avast. I like them both, somewhat and both haven't found any viruses. I'm pretty careful while on the web, guess it pays off. 🙂

How do you use Prevx? I dled something that said csi and immediately it ran without confirmation with a learning scan and all kinds of stuff so I uninstalled it.

Download it from here: http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp - free.

Install it, it will do a first scan of your PC and will finish installing. Then your good to go.
IMO it looks pretty rogue, but after some researching it appears that it isn't.

Anyways, I use McAfee, MalwareBytes' and SpyBot S&D

Thats why practicing safe web surfing is the best security. Plus addons like WOT helps 🙂.

This times 100000000. The only reason Macs don't get as much malware is because Windows is more commonly used. If Mac was more popular than Windows, Mac would theoretically have more malware coded for it than Windows, thusly making it more prone to malware

Restating this in more depth, even though it was very well put:

A Mac runs on a totally different OS than Windows does, therefore viruses are coded completely different, and as more people use Windows than Macs (especially in the early 2000's and 1990's), viruses were initially created mostly for the Windows OS rather than the Macs OS. Although, viruses for Macs are existent.

I am using AVG Free Edition 2011.
there are many new features it has

1-Antivirus
2-Antispyware
3-Link scanner
4-resident shield
5-family safety, (you can block unsafe site for kids)
6-email scanner
7-free virus definition update
8-Antiroot kit
9-Pc analyzer

so its free and serving best for my pc.

I use AVG and Malewarebyte. AVG cannot detect maleware or spyware properly.
