I use to be a big fan of Hewlett-Packard, but after working as a IT Retail Technician, that went away quickly. One of my duties was to handle all of the warranty repairs that came through. A lot of those were HP desktops and laptops. Most of them were related to the HDD failing or something like that. Since then, I'm stepped away from HP. Their business line seems pretty decent (my workplace has a lot of HP systems).
I personally would go for ASUS, my gaming laptop is from ASUS. I also built my own PC with mostly with ASUS components (motherboard, bluetooth adapter, disc drive, etc). The only thing I don't like about my gaming laptop, is how heavy the darn thing is. About 10lbs or so, but it does a great job of keeping me entertained when I need it.
I've got 2 Asus laptops at the moment (my Republic of Gamers G750JW and an X553MA for work). And both of them are solid machines that do exactly what I need them to.
I've not had any issues with Asus... And I was impressed enough that when I was looking for a new router I bought an Asus one (it's a RT-AC66U and it is an extremely solid router).
Though I've also used Toshiba laptops and they're pretty solid too.
