So, what are your signature rules? What do you allow?

On my forum you are able to have up to 5 lines of readable text and 3 (sizeable) images. I've thought about not allowing images at all before because they're hard to monitor, often oversized, etc.. but that would have to be something you would do in the beginning not after already starting a forum and having members with signature. There's no set rules to "sizeable" but it's basically not too large/small, feasible colors, etcetera.

Almost anything is allowed in signatures that obey our size guideline (total horizontal length of 650 pixels or less and a total vertical height of 150 pixels or less). Besides total size, the only other rule in place regarding signatures is that links/banners in them cannot lead to or display certain content, like pornography, hate messages, etc.

I'd much rather prefer NOT to have them as I find them tedious to posts and and easily organize all the work I did to organize a thread, or at-least mess with the CSS to make it look nice.

However I'm nice and let the members have text signatures; I will not allow images at all. I find them to bloat up the postbit and most of the time members will just post odd images that really have good looking appeal to them, which just makes the thread look ugly. 😛

Links are fine, text is fine, giant text is fine, (considering myBB doesn't have the giant text to be well, giant. It's a fair size for "giant" text) and colors. I DO allow smilies however; I would not count them as images even though they are. They are part of the forum so, it's only fair if I allow them on the signatures.

Have you ever had people give you feedback griping about this policy? (I mean, not allowing images at all?)

I think it makes sense to set a limit on signatures. I find it incredibly distracting when a signature image is extremely large.

Sometimes yes; however the forum wasn't a place to advertise. I wanted a place I could get away from ads and images pestering me to join their site, etc. And most of the community agreed; so the rule stayed and it actually brought in more people. Sometimes people just get annoyed with the signatures, hence why mine is so simple, and which is why I disabled signatures on this forum so that I do not see them.

I am very flexible with this. I give up to a 500 x 150 space. I will have it smaller sometimes if the forum has a lot of spam.

I allow mostly anything, just as it isn't ridiculously big and ridiculous at all.
