What do you think about a Directory & Topsites Feature?

I wanted to get your thoughts. I’ve got a Topsites and Directory planned on XenForo. It should be released sometime next week, I hope. It could be a way to showcase forums, blogs and communities, but I don’t want to spill all the details just yet! 😉


Would this be something you'd look forward to or find useful? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any ideas you might have!

We can definitely use more topsites and directory websites! Who wouldn't want another platform to promote their projects? The more exposure the better! I would definitely use it for my projects!

When Malcolm and I formed Promotion Future, a lot of members were eager to get their sites listed on the site. You'll have no problems getting them there initially.

Well, it’s going faster than expected. I’ve got the directory and Topsites feature up, but I’ll still need to do some work.

If anyone wants to get ahead and at the same time help me out by testing the system and plugging their forum, blog, website, discord, … feel free to PM me.

I like the idea, but all the sites that have attempted this in the past only keep members returning to update their listings at most, and sometimes they don't bother to do that.

How will your site be any different or better?

I do not have these features on my forums but I like these features on the forums I visit.

I think it takes away from the forum in all honesty.

Create a section/board for links and use prefixes or something for categorization.

I say try to keep everyone on the forum as much as you can.

Top sites are IMO a thing of the past. I miss that past, though. I'm old school. LOL

Directories are actually sensational for SEO purposes, but I would probably host them in a sub-directory and just have a small listing or a Call to Action on the main forum page. We'd need to keep people posting as much as possible

Maybe ones that are very niched down.

I mean backlinks really need to be on relevant content or pages to be good for SEO. Most directories, standalone ones, are full of spam. I wouldn't want my link on something full of spam. That could hurt your ranking.
