What do you think about stealing names?

I recently saw someone on this board "change their name" to a famous video gamer on a video game. What do you guys think about people stealing others user names?

I personnally don't mind it if it is like off of a video game or mobie, but if it is someones username that is unique to them, that bothers me.

This doesn't bother me either. It's just a username. And how do you now he's not the real person? You never know. 😉

As long they are not trying to mislead people it is okay. For example, if some one registers the name "tomcruise", and join FP pretending to be Tom Cruise the famous actor who is also an Scientologist then it can be misleading.

A lot of people like to register famous people's names on forums or name their kids after famous people.

I can completely relate. One of the first message boards I joined up with was a Backstreet Boys forum, and I signed up there as Brian Fan when I first started foruming, as that meant I was a fan of Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys. Kind of a long story, really.

Anyway, it doesn't bother me a bit. They are probably never the person they claim to be.

To be honest, if somebody wants to do it then that's up to them. Although if someone tried to claim they were Eminem or someone, i'd be very worried.

Um, no. Zezima didn't change their name ever.

As for the OP, "stealing names"? You can't technically steal someone's name; it's not like they hold a registered trademark on their name, or legally own it.

Ifthat game or character or whatever means something to them or their posting style, what's the issue? It's a personal choice. So logn as you're not stealing someone elses username to impersonate or defame them.
