Take a look at the terms for my forum and let me know what you think.

Welcome to 2Haven: Where all kinds are accepted, all views respected and all things discussed. In the haven you'll make friends, share common interests and converse upon all matters which may tingle or torture your mind. Below is a list of important terms. If you wish to dwell in the haven you must READ them, UNDERSTAND them and FOLLOW them. Lest your soul be devoured by hungry demons.

1. Always respect others (and their views/opinions)
2. Trolling is not cool (causing offense/trouble, inciting flames)
3. Neither is flaming (insulting/abusing others)
4. Never post offensive material (pornographic/obscene/shock/etc)
5. No advertising/sales (services/products)
6. Spam tastes awful (irrelevant links / website promotion)
7. Nobody likes spoilers (Use spoiler tags and put warnings in topic titles/descriptions)
8. Illegal activities are illegal (ANY violation of the law) (this does not include DISCUSSING such things within reason)
9. Use the report button if you spot anything which breaks the terms (or something of concern) and let us know
10. Be cool, be friendly, be 2Haven.

Breaking any of the 2Haven terms will result in warning, suspension or even a permanent ban depending on specific circumstances. And how much of a ******* you are. You are now enlightened. Go forth and dwell, brothers and sisters.

I like these terms, other than:

7. Nobody likes spoilers (Use spoiler tags and put warnings in topic titles/descriptions)

That's not very necessary. There is nothing wrong with spoilers. I don't really like that idea, I think you should take that out if possible. 😉 Other than that, I'm cool with it.

I agree. Very nicely well written, but I got to agree with Hiocoie on number 7. Spoilers can actually be kind of fun to view sometimes, especially if there's a project in the works or whatever. So I wouldn't go as far as banning spoilers, but your other rules are very nicely written. Not too harsh and you seem to get straight to the point, which is how rules should be.

They seem fine to me, though I have to disagree with the other 2 regarding rule 7, I have seen people get cussed out over the fact that they accidentally read a spoiler, and were quite upset that they did, so rule number 7 is more of a courtesy than anything.

This way, if that person decides to read the spoiler, then it was done so on their own recognizance and if it was properly placed within the spoiler tag, then there is no problem.

Yeah, but that's why they're called Spoilers in the first place, though. If there's anything offensive or too strong in them, members do have the option not to click on the spoiler being shown, and of course common sense says that a person should always read or look at that stuff at their own risk.

All rule seven means is that users must place spoilers in the proper tags. 😉 I agree that it's more of a courtesy thing than anything else.

Oops, my bad. I just reread the rule and finally got it. That is a good idea. Because if a person posts a spoiler about something or other, and say if there's foul language involved or if something that's not suitable for all age groups involved, members should be required to use this on almost
any forum and put something like:

WARNING! CONTAINS <INSERT WHATEVER HERE>! PLEASE CLICK AT YOUR OWN RISK! or something of that extent. So when you put it that way, this would almost be a good mandatory rule for any forum to have, regardless of what genera it is.

Yep, and that is exactly why we have that tag at my place..

I thought forum software in general have the spoiler BB Code by default? or is it a custom one like the YouTube BB Code that you have to add in yourself?

I agree with you on rule 7. A person should be warned if there are spoilers. One thing I have just mentioned to my Admin. and I don't know what you think of them, but do you have any problem with a person having multiple accounts?

My forum has a problem with multiple accounts. We even have a rule that it doesn't matter if you are on our forum for a package request, or if you're an active poster, all members are only allowed one account. We dislike multiple accounts because it makes our forum's stats seriously inaccurate, thus making it hard for us to properly promote the forum because they are not the real stats.

Re: TC has 50,000 posts, and still, no vampires..

Yes, Ashley, the spoiler tag, like the YouTube, Dailymotion tags, etc., are all custom. I think I have a list in the BBCode FAQ regarding which tags were default and which were custom.

Anyway, we don't allow multiple accounts at my place, I have had members register duplicate accounts because they have lost access to their original account and when they have done so, they are upfront about it.

They explain the situation, and that they don't want to cause trouble and I ask them if they want me to reset their password so they can login to their old account, or if they want me to disable it completely so they can keep the new one, since duplicate accounts aren't allowed.

They usually keep the old one, and want their login info reset, but want the old account's name changed to the new one they created. After everything has been said and done, their new account, with the old name is permanently disabled.

On the other side of the coin, I will tell you now, that you'd be surprised at the number of "siblings" a person has that just so happen to "come out of the woodwork" when a person has been warned or suspended temporarily for something. I haven't had this happen on my forum, but it has happened numerous times on my brother's old forum.

They always come back to "plead" that member's case when they've been suspended, yet said nothing when numerous warnings had been issued. It was pretty amusing when it happened because these "people" forgot that as admins, we can see their ip addresses, and that we don't ban a person's ip when they been suspended for a certain amount of time.

We only ip ban when that person does something that warrants a ban, or comes back with a duplicate account. Usually, after being suspended, they are placed on probation but are allowed to post as usual. So when a person is suspended, it is typically a minor offense, but when they call themselves "outsmarting" us by having their "siblings" to plead their case, then, at that point, it is a ban-able offense.

So, they've pretty much dug their own grave at that point.

That's kind of what we do as well.. If a person has registered, posted, left the forum for a period of time, only to come back and find out that they can't remember their original account details, we will happily reset your details for you and by doing so we can let you back in, We have had to merge accounts before because of packagers coming on to fulfill a package, and then register a new account the next time we requested a package. It messes up our stats so we are now actually becoming very strict about this matter, as we need to keep our stats as accurate as humanly possible.

on #8 you might want to note which country laws you are speaking of 😉.

on #2 & 3 you might want to reword that to be more professional sounding.

Wouldn't number 8 be kind of hard to accomplish? Every government has it's own set of laws, so really it'd be kind of hard to make a solid rule out of it so that it concerns all parties involved. I would just put emphases on following the forum's TOS and just go from there.
