What do you think of sites with animation?

I'm not talking about anything flashy, but what do you think of sites that make use of animation? I usually don't mind unless the background is animated. When there's a fade/slide in of the background, it gets really annoying when you're navigating pages, and it just makes the site seem slower.

On the other hand, animation can be a great way to draw attention to certain parts of your website. That's why it should definitely be used tastefully, like in the second example I provided below.

The first links animations are very heavy (they forced down my browser)
The second example, have nice animations.

I like the animations in a site, but not to be very annoying or the main attraction...
 
When I clicked http://aviary.com, I became very dizzy because of the picture turn, lol. It didn't really affect me much; just surprised me. As for http://monofactor.com, that's not a huge deal. It's just a bunch of "page" turns that turn from picture to picture.

I don't really think animations on a website seem to attract people in any way. Like I said, the first link's animations are very heavy, unlike the second link's animations.
