I recently had a discussion with someone over MSN about which is better: A custom designed skin for your forum, or buying 1 from a company.

I said a custom skin, seeing as you can layout everything as you want, and all you have to do is tell them or send them a PSD design. You also have that feeling knowing that everything is yours, and not worried about seeing other sites with the same skin, which doesn't make it really stand out.

Obviously pre-made skins are cheaper (quite alot depending on the forum software), you probably also get the PSD files to edit the images, which can also come in handy for some users. But you always hate that time when you come across another site using the same skin, which then makes you think 'Damn I need to find a new one'.

I would like your thoughts on this...

I say go with a pre made one until you find a custom one that fits your community theme

You don't find custom ones. You get them made.

Of course custom ones, their more noticed. I hate seeing over used skins it makes your site look the same as another.

It still isn't yours though. You can't say it's your skin.

Yes you can, you just can't say you made it. You can say you own the skin too, but as i said you can't say you made it.

Also you can say your the only one who uses the skin 😉.

I meant you can't say it's yours as in you made it. I hate coming across a site which has the same skin, always make you feel as if you need to get a new 1 😛

It's always nice to see a skin which isn't used a lot, or a custom made one.
