Have you ever had an amazing idea for a forum, something you were really passionate about and started the forum with all this great enthusiasm but couldn't get anyone else excited about the idea? Maybe it was a rare niche or personal hobby that many people don't share. What would you do in that situation? Would you shut down the forum or struggle on?

If you're passionate about it then you should continue on. With hard work and dedication you'll eventually attract some users with the same passion for that subject as you.

Indeed.

Inspire people to become as passionate as you are by inspiring your passion into the forum. Write to inspire your audience and make your content sticky to their minds.

Such thing usually happens when the idea is too specific. But usually there are fans/people who are interested in that area, just a matter of how you can find this target community and advertise your forum/website to them. I feel it happened to me when I still had a fan forum running and I had to do that to get more interests to my forum.

But indeed, if you're very passionate about it do give it a try first before giving up.

Obstackles are to be overcome! And if you give up too soon you might miss some great opportunities 🙂

This is what happened with now called DiscussionHub. At the start it was very slow and we only had a few hundred posts and Kingcool52 was about to give up when I told him not too and carry on. Glad I managed to persuade him as we now have over 10,000 posts+ and 142 members, with an active friendly community to match 😀

Whatever might be the niche, rare or personal hobby, I will continue with my work and make people take interest in the topic by sharing the values of the niche.

Always continue to work on it. I mean people prolly thought that computers were dumb back in the 60-90's but did that stop Bill Gates? No. Do you think building the pc was easy? No. With that said, just try to target people who share the same interest as you and continue to put work into your website.

I felt like that recently with the site Music Fun. I have a huge passion for music and I love a lot of different kinds of music, but I think the problem with my idea was that there was too much competition. I mean, if you look on Google or even in FP's advertisement department, in the Entertainment and Media section, there are all sorts of music related forums being advertised all the time! A lot of people seemed to enjoy my Marie 1988 forum better, which is why I decided to bring that site back.

Obviously before making a forum i'd try to find members who are interested in the idea. A forum's only dead if no one's posting, and if you know someone who knows about the forum niche well you can invite them and boom
a potential active member

I feel like my forum will struggle for a while. It's rather specific. But I think if I just push on I will gain a good member count.

I'm always full of ideas I think could be great but sometimes I do seem to be the only one who sees potential in the ideas.

I have thought of running a Spongebob fan site since i have A Mario fan one, however it was shut down as nobody was really interested in the idea. 🙁

Re: What if you are excited about your forum but no one else

This seems to be my case at the moment lol.. I think the niche of my forum is unique and might be the only one on the net. Although alot of topics I listed are the same as most, you really can't get around that.

Find those people in the world who share your hobby. Takes time, but wow when you do it's worth it!! All the more when it's really born of passion.

Ah....that's so ..like me >.>

Even now,I am still excited but other admins are just treating our forum as "everyday stuff"

it's takes a long time and can be daunting but don't give up, Going through advertising my site now and the gaming industry don't have many options of advertiisng forums etc besides paying for promotion.

Re: What if you are excited about your forum but no one else

I would carry on, as it would be something I'm passionate about. Hopefully more interested people will join me as time passes. If it's an unique idea, its at least worth a shot.

If I don't have any job and I create websites to feed my family:
I would keep working on the forum for 1-2 months. If it doesn't make me anything in those months, I would shut it down and concentrate on other projects. Being passionate about your forum is a good thing, but that is not going to feed you and your family.
If I already have a job and I create sites just for fun/timepass:
I would keep working on the forum for 2-3 years even if it does not have any members at all.

Consistency is necessary for success. Also, if members aren't passionate about your community, you'll have to find members who are, or do something to change it. Don't give up.
