I love owning a forum and managing forums as it gives me a chance to meet and talk with new people all the time. And, I like the community vibe where you can get to know people and see them every day. However, on some forums that I visit, the forum owner doesn't seem very talkative. And, on that forum it works. Maybe it varies depending on the community.
Do you think it's required to be very talkative or social in order to have a thriving forum? Does it help to be very social?
I think it's nice if the forum owner likes to talk and be welcoming to new members. I would be like that myself. We get to learn more about them, as the creator of the community, their role is important, as well as listening to members should they have any issues/suggestions. Having someone who hardly talks is a bit awkward and not a good trait.
It is very important to be talkative to be a forum owner. There is a particular forum I used to frequent where the owner is not very social. I think that the users grow frustrated because they're never quite sure what is happening, and they feel that the owner doesn't care much about the site.
I feel as though the forum owner is the one that kicks off the majority of conversations on a brand new forum, unless you have a partner with you that can do that for you I guess?
You can't really expect people to join a forum that is entirely empty with almost no conversations going on.
So my answer is, yes a forum owner should be social.
