What if you are getting 100 or more posts on your forum daily and then suddenly the posts drop to just a few? How would you get the forum community active again? What things could you do to stimulate new posts?

People forget about forums so sometimes a mass email can help aslong as you don't send pointless begging emails or send a large number of them. Also posting alot of replies to topics and starting new topics to encourage posts can help. The more you post, the more your users post. he more active your site looks, the more people will visit and sign up.

We get about 150-200 posts daily; I thought that was low. 😕

150 a day is a pretty good number for an active community. (Certainly better than like 10-20 posts...)

Sending out an email can be a good idea. (I've honestly never had any success when I've tried. People have returned, but 99% of the time they make 1-2 posts and then they're gone again.)
But if you send out an email, just give a few updates about your site. So include a note about: any new contests that are going on, any events, a few active topics, an update about how many members/posts there are, etc...
(This way your email comes off less of a "please come back" and more of "Hey, here's some cool stuff we have going on you might be interested in.")

I agree with VirusZero. At least there must be some posts going on everyday to keep it alive and going. Post rate dropping is common. Bringing new content and sending regular reminders can help. Or if it's too silent, contests can come in to help. We all need a slap in our face once in a while or else we forget. XD

Honestly, I've never been crazy about active forums. The activity we've got going on my site is just perfect for me at the moment. Yes, I am interested in getting more members and posts (hence why I've been requesting services again) but really, I've never been in this for competition at all.. I'm in this because I'm tired of seeing all these strict general chat communities...within the last month or so alone I probably only joined up with one or two good ones, and honestly, it's just nice to have something to call my own and just have a place for members to hang out and stuff like that. I know a lot of people like big active forums, and while some big active forums are OK, others, in terms of activity, are way too much for me to keep up with even as a regular member, hence why I went with the genere I'm going with, general discussion.

Back on topic: I do, however, agree that a mass email just stating that you guys are still around and any updates coming could be a perfect solution. When I was on advanced hosting, we took advantage of this feature and in some ways it had helped us a lot. To an extent, I kind of miss the mass email feature now that I'm on free hosting, but in all honesty, I'm better without it because when I tried running a forum on my own last time, I took too much advantage of it and wound up with some pissed off members as a result, which is totally understandable.

I could say you could try hosting a contest too, different things work for different people and different forums; you just basically have to play about with ideas and see what works best for you.

I suppose getting the right members helps. *shrug* Yeah, I know that's not useful, but making personally inviting people you know will be active members would be a good idea?

A good portion of my members came from another site that recently died, and they were always very active posters. It's all about getting the right people to post enough quality content to attract more visitors. 🙂

This has happened to me many times in the past. One tip I suggest is that you post more new topics each day for a couple days in a row. Check out your previous "hot topics" and see what made them so discussed and then evolve them into new topics on the community to try to get things going again.

You know what, I actually prefer small forums. XD

And I thought the option of mass e-mail is a forum function, not a hosting function. So you should still be able to send mass e-mails even though you're on a free host.
