What is a good digital sound recorder for recording sound?

Does anyone here use a digital portable sound recorder for recording conversations or sound effects since a laptop is too big for carrying around to record lectures or sound effects like "bird chirping" sounds from a bird.

I know a lot of MP3 players like the iPod has a jack which lets you attach a microphone, and other brands of MP3 players have built-in mics, but I need something that has great quality for recording sound and is portable.

Depends on your budget. Zoom H2 is a good one but costs a good amount. What is your budget?

I'm willing to spend 100 dollars or less on a sound recorder.

I have a little Olympus one I got for ~40$ at the local electronics shop. 100$ price point really isn't high enough to get into the pro-audio spectrum so I wouldn't spend more than 40-50$ unless you want the specific feature on a given device.
