IP address stands for internet Protocol. Ever single router in the world has one. They can tell the approximate location on where you live.

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is used by forum owners to track down your location allow them to ban users. Everyone has one, and every home has a different IP address to another.

A MAC (media access control) address is similar, but is used to give a unique identify to each individual computer on your network, whereas a single IP address will cover all of your devices.

Web servers have them too, and if you know the IP address of the server, you can access websites via the IP address. Website domains are an alternate method for accessing websites, as we generally find it easier to remember words, than a series of numbers.

They both go beyond this, but this will give you a simple idea.
