What is life without the pursuit of greatness?

I have big dreams and aspirations in life. I want to achieve greatness by becoming the greatest volleyballer there ever was. I enjoy nothing more than chasing this dream and working hard on it everyday of my life. But then I see people who simply don't care. People who seem to have no direction in life, no dreams they're willing to chase or work hard for. I don't understand why you'd want to waste your one and only life.

What are your thoughts?

To some people there are more things in life than following dreams or having a job. Our materialistic world has changed values of people, all people want now days is a good paying job, house and a family. Some people don't want any of this. Some people want to be free, true there are some who don't care, but everyones life has a reason. We are not to judge.

These people may fit into the following categories. :yes:

A) Person may be depressed.

B) Happy-Go-Lucky

C) Innocent or Naive

D) Lazy

Maybe some of these people have a dream, but are too shy to share their dream until they acheive them/someone finds out, or are not very social so no one knows what their dreams are.

I think Materialism can make some people not have as many dreams since they are rich already, and don't really need to work for money as much or at all since they have or can afford most of the material stuff they need, or they choose to spend their time on tasks like reading which don't have a big affect on the world, town, or family compared to writing the "great american novel".

But, a lot of these people are probably lazy, depressed, naive, and have poor time management skills, or comitments which they find very important to their country and family like serving in the ARMY rather then pursuing their true dream.

I guess I fall into this, and I could never picture myself being depressed. I think that being happy is more important than ever accomplishing anything. Do I want to accomplish things? Sure. Do I care if I ultimately don't? Nope, I'll continue to live my life until I die, and it shall be well spent.

I agree with all the points above. I also just want to make one more:

Maybe they are uninformed?

Perhaps they have not yet realized the importance of going for their dreams. They need a wake-up call. I remember when I was a bit younger, I didn't care about school or education. Little did I know how important it would be in the future.

Many people are also happy to work at Facebook, Google, Yahoo, smaller companies and have no plans to start their own brand or be their own boss about the thing they love to do like search engines, social networks, or News, and rather just work for someone else, or volunteering for free coding for Linux, WordPress, Drupal, and many other open source free projects which anyone with the skills and passion can contribute to anonymously.

Plus, you also need to form a team of the smartest and hardest working people you could find to start a high traffic search engine, social network, etc for little or no pay in the beginning which is not easy.
