I want to join some directories but can't because it always says invalid URL and Iacutally don't know what to put in that field.

What is it ?

You should put the url of the page where you have place the link of that site (directory ) on your site. 🙂

It depends where you have put their affiliate button or link, for example I place mine on my homepage along with all other affiliates so the URL is my home page 😉

I just tested it out and it works fine for me.....

I added my my site but I had to add their link to mine first and there was no problem I typed http://maddogz.forumotion.co.uk into the URL box and exactly the same into the Reciprocal Link URL, that's all there was to it?

Thus I should add on my board:

<a href="http://www.urlmoz.com/">http://www.community-forums.net</a>

And then on there directory says also put my adress ?

Sorry for the delay in getting back I had to do the school run.....

OK lets try to get this sorted,

1) You need to firstly copy and paste this

Code:
<a href="http://www.urlmoz.com/">Add Link Suggest URL</a>

into your home page along side your other affiliates or somewhere else, it doesn't actually come up as an affiliate button just writing so it looks messy.

2) In the box it asks you for your forum name, then the box below asks you for your URL.....

3) In the reciprocal box you put in the URL of the page where you put THEIR code (the one above in the code box)

EG......

Name MadDogz
URL http://maddogz.forumotion.co.uk
Reciprocal Link URL http://maddogz.forumotion.co.uk

......because I placed THEIR code onto my home page 🙂

I would make another html file and place the given link in that file, so members don't see those links, which are turn offs. Then use that new page's link as the referral link.

Some of these are starting to require PR1+ referral links.

I generally just don't bother with them. They're rarely worth it.

If they do, its because they don't want spam links to be entered onto their database, plus gain a backlink on their end, if it requires a reciprocal link.

This is my method of building back links from reciprocal link directories, 😉 I've also thought about another method, by the way. Create a new web page for your website offering a free list of link directories with the links to the respectful link directory which you submitted your link to. But, I have not tried it yet and I'm not sure if they'll accept/refuse your link. ( but, I highly think that they'll accept your link ) But, the thing is, you can only use this method for certain websites, depending on your website's niche, heehee...

I just avoid reciprocal directories, there are lots where you don't need to add their link. Hell you don't even have to add it when you submit to DMOZ, why bother with those other dinky little directories XD

I'd prefer a quick PR3 directory, as opposed to a 8 month waiting time PR8 directory. DMOZ takes a long time to accept, if you even will be accepted. I wouldn't rely on it.

(that's if you're submitting for the backlink, even though you shouldn't be)
