I just signed up because I was trying to comment on someone's blog post but.. now I'm just confused. OK so maybe if it's just late and my head just isn't as sharp as it should be. (Oh boy I hope I'm posting this in the right section! Sorry mods if I'm not!) So... can someone give me a quick, summary, of what Reddit is? How does it work? and is worth diving into and learning about it more?

Thanks!

I've moved this to a better section. 🙂

In a nutshell, reddit is a community made up of smaller communities (subreddit). These communities are based on different topics, and you would only find topics related to that subject in that subreddit. The rest of it is pretty similar to a forum.

Yup reddit is quite like a forum but hell of a congested place it is.

^ Agreed here. 😛 I just can't seem to figure it out!

Reddit is more like a forum and advertising your network out there through mass discussions.

Reddit is a lets say link sharing place, where people search or post some of their interested in subreddits. Basically it is a board with many categories where people share common interest.
But watch out if you have an opinion that goes against their believes you will get banned from posting in a subreddit.
Like I did for saying that anyone can be racist and that not all white people are racist...but that's another topic.

Well reddit is great for views, but you don't get returning views if you don't constantly share your link.

It works like this:
You have something interesting to share
You share it on reddit
You ether get positive or negative feedback from their community

If you have something that might interest people (blog post, interesting website) you might get a lot of views from reddit and maybe even some members 🙂

Thanks Pandaa for moving this to the appropriate board! So basically... it can be useful, but not something I absolutely need to jump on right away is what this sounds like. lol Interesting concept, just looks like a mess! =)

Reddit is a large social network forum where people mainly post stuff to different pages called subreddits which are forums about different topics like technology, animals, pets, etc.

It is similar to the old version of Digg, StumbleUpon, and other link sharing sites which allow commenting.

Reddit is also mostly text based rather than like a full featured social network like Facebook which has large pictures, video, and apps and games hosted Facebook.

I tried being a part of a Reddit community, but the people there appear to be stuck up their own asses. Not only that, but the whole interface sucks. I don't recommend advertising there.

I agree the community is not very friendly at Reddit. I received some un-friendly comments when I shared a link, or YouTube video which some members don't like.

Reddit seems more friendly than 4Chan, but Reddit seems to attract less-social members like 4Chan. I think a lot of Reddit members just use Reddit because 4Chan is blocked at school, work, and other places, so they use Reddit.

In my eyes, it is like a huge, public forum. You can share different content and talk about any topic.

I'm a newbie at Reddit too and I was overwhelmed by the number of links and topics. From what I can tell, you either contribute to a community that exists, or create a new niche community to post in. I posted in a domain sales section somewhere but it's a little too niche.... we hardly get any visitors, but somehow it has more of a community feel than your typical forum because you have to work together to make your niche take off. You typically don't find that kind of enthusiasm in a forum.

I browse reddit when I'm bored. There can be interesting stuff to see/do there at times but I don't ever bother making posts/comments because I'm just one insignificant person. My comment would be buried and unseen within minutes.

So true. If you want anything to be seen at reddit, you basically have to post exactly what everyone else wants to hear. 😛

True that you can find good things on reddit, but its not a place I prefer to browse.
