I'm not sure which antivirus for Google Android is best since there are so many, but a lot of people use Lookout, and AVG.

Thanks for the tips,

I recently read a story online about an Android phone vulnerability deleting everything on a phone making it useless by just clicking a ordinary html link, or installing an app on a phone because of a vulnerability in Android which is scary since a good website could be hacked to spread the vulnerability, or if someone post the bad link on Facebook, Twitter, forums, blogs, and the user taps on a link leading to the bad website their unpatched/non-protected Android phone would get wiped.

I heard some Antivirus like Lookout for Android protect users from this new vulnerability.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cellphones using Google's Android operating system are at risk of being disabled or wiped clean of their data, including contacts, music and photos, because of a security flaw that was discovered several months ago but went unnoticed until now.

Opening a link to a website or a mobile application embedded with malicious code can trigger an attack capable of destroying the memory card in Android-equipped handsets made by Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony Ericsson, rendering the devices useless, computer security researcher Ravi Borgaonkar wrote in a blog post Friday. Another code that can erase a user's data by performing a factory reset of the device appears to target only the newly released and top selling Galaxy S III and other Samsung phones, he wrote.

I first started using Lookout but switch to avast! Mobile but I have recently switched back to Lookout after becoming paranoid that avast! wasn't protecting my phone anymore.

So If youre asking what is the best, That is for you to find out. Me my preferance is Lookout.

Thanks for the feedback, Lookout seems like the best mobile Android antivirus.

I read somewhere that Lookout now protects Android phones from the Dialer vulnerability which can delete a phone's memory card by clicking on a link, or installing an app which dials the delete code.

No antivirus is needed. It is just something people download to make themselves feel safe but it does nothing.

Now that's just coming from an arrogant computer users standpoint who thinks that the only way to be compromised is via downloads. People can still execute scripts and exploits through websites or they can exploit already existing, popular apps like, oh say Angry Birds, and infect users through that, thus nullifying the, "trusted apps" theory you like to go by.

Good point!

Hackers can execute scripts and redirect codes to trick you into installing fake Android Antivirus and other kind of dangerous apps.

Plus, a lot of cheaper tablets, and smartphones don't use Google Play, and uses Getjar, Amazon App store, etc which make people more likely to use file sharing sites like Rapidshare, Dropbox, etc to find apps to download because apps are not available on Getjar, Amazon, etc, and some 3rd-party apps stores which came bundled with non-Google Play phones may not review all apps for security problems.

I also read about Carrier IQ which is spyware which comes pre-installed in phones which can log info about the user, so an Android Anti-virus might be able to remove Carrier IQ.

"More than 141 million smartphones are now running software called Carrier IQ that can log everything a user does and sees, including private web browsing, incoming texts and which buttons you press on the phone. Is your Android handset spying on you? Here’s how to check."

Anti-Virus is a myth, if you surf right then your be ok, if you sloppy surf then expext to get something..

What about people surfing on good websites which get hacked by a hacker to spread malware and viruses?

A lot of websites get hacked because of poor security like hiring a shaddy admin who hack the website to spread viruses, using an outdated plug-in on a website, or not keeping their Website software like WordPress, etc updated.

Sometimes the web host can be hacked spreading viruses to all websites hosted on the web host servers.
