Heya. I was wondering which one you think the best forum software is to use?

If you vote other, please state which one it is.

Thankyou 🙂

I did not know about any of them, hence why i have an other option.

If you choose other then you could say the one you most prefer 🙂

Hugely opinionated question, but I support phpBB as a favorite.

I voted for Phpbb because I know about it more then any other forum software but just because I like it doesn't me you will like it.

I prefer SMF. It's easy to use and customize and there are a ton of mods for it. There's an excellent support community for it as well.

IPB or vB are paid. IPB costs 150$ vB is about 180$. Most people starting up boards for the first time use free scripts. In that regard I'd recommend MyBB. A lot of people recommend phpBB3, but that is because it is establishe with a large following.

If you can afford it, pick IPB or vB. But if you are starting up a brand new community with no idea how well it will take off, pick one of the free scripts like MyBB, SMF or phpBB3.

I voted 'other', for Invisionfree (lots of resources and easy, IPB-like interface) and Zetaboards (user-friendly and well-secure). :great:

Hosting phpBB yourself would be ideal.

However when installing mods, most need a few template edits, but if you know what your doing, it shouldn't be that hard 🙂

What he said. phpBB3 is awesome.

There really is no best. It's what the community and staff running it prefer 🙂

First I tried phpBB, but I didn't like it at all. The cluttered Admin CP as well as the #54038980 spambots that target phpBB made me uninstall it within days. I now use MyBB and I never looked back, imo really the best free forum software out there.

Why waste money on a license for VB or IPB? Just go with a open-source forum software(I prefer Mybb) and use that money towards hosting, custom theme, and so on? It really makes no sense to blow $150+ on a paid forum software. How is IPB or VB better than any of the other open-source forum software?

Try out IPB 3.0 and then compare it to open source software. You will then have answered your own question
