I been in the game a while, way back when, the first forum i ever joined was in 1999 called Tazboard. It was a forum from a website called Wickeddownloads. It was primarily a website/forum for illegal ftp warez filesharing.
I did some reminicing on waybackmachine, i wont post the url to it here, you can look it up on there if you want to, be warned though if you do, Chrome may warn of potential threats, thats because of the listings of private and public ftp servers. Those type of forums became a huge thing for a long time, WickedTaz was one of the first on the internet to bring it to the mainstream as it became.
It was kinda cool to read some of the old threads from back then, and see names (usernames) of people i havent thought about in decades lol.
What is the first forum/community you joined and why?
I genuinely can't remember the name of the forum anymore, lol, it was in 1995 I was a member for a couple of months before I left it, but it was my gateway into forums as a whole 😀. I've waybacked a few old forums I used to love, it is definitely nice to go back and see them again!
The first forum I really ever used was called The Kingdom Key, I went there for support on a game called Kingdom Hearts. Plus I just wanted to talk about the overall game.
After talking to @PGen98 it for sure was a custom made forum using a programming language called Cold Fusion. It for sure was made to almost look like a phpBB2 forum, though. Yeah, back then I felt like it was good. It was a forum for gamers and all that too. GamePro was a gaming magazine you could buy or subscribe to in the USA.
I also don't really recall the first forum I accessed but it would have been a late 80s bulletin board. I do recall the first forum I joined because I own it. It was a forum dedicated to old aged (online games) players which started life in 2001.
The very first one I can remember joining, was for a few mmorpg games previously owned by swirve.com. and boy did I hate the limited topic amount per board on the forum. Had several topics I liked that had to be remade on a number of occasions, because of the lack of database size for the software.
LegendOfZelda.com was my first, I signed up in maybe 2007 or so - not only was it my first forum but it was my first vBulletin forum, and LoZ was a great example of what made vB the king in its heyday - lots and lots of great novelty addons. They had a points system and the points u earned could be used to play games in their Flash arcade or you could buy little icon gifts for other members like ribbons etc. that would appear in their postbits.
The first forum I joined was Glitch City Laboratories, it was a community that documented the numerous glitches in the gen 1 Pokemon games. Later it branched off to the entire franchise, and eventually the forums closed in 2020. The community moved to Discord, so I haven't been active really in it since... I joined back in 2006 and was a complete noob and had a bad username.
The first forum I ever joined was nairaland forum. This forum is life itself as far as my home country is concerned. You can find anything on that forum. Anything related to life.
