What is the safest operating system?

If we're strictly speaking about the operating system, I'd say every operating system should be about as safe as the next one. However, due to the popularity of Windows, I believe there is a lot more malware and viruses out there for it, compared to other operating systems that aren't quite as popular.

If you're a savvy user, I'd say a Linux distribution is probably your best bet if you want to really nail down and make your computer safe.

Linux is definitely a good option to go with, but I feel Windows to be more user friendly and can be operated by all in the family.

A very obscure Linux distro that no one is targeting?

With about half the operating system locked down so nothing can be run from your current account except a web browser?

Tails OS is probably the most secure Debian Linux based operating system because it is designed for Privacy, and being Anonymous online.

You can run it from a bootable startup CD or USB drive, so you can unplug your hard drive, or disable it in your BIOS, and still can use Tails OS without any risk of viruses, or hackers accessing your hard drive because it is not plug into your computer's motherboard, or enabled when you disable your hard drive ports in the BIOS.

Depends on popularity really. A lot say Macs are the safest because fanboys like to say, "It has no viruses and never will.". Like I said before and will say many times again. It depends on demand. There is a larger demand for Windows so there obviously is more viruses, but you can keep yourself pretty safe if you're cautious and don't recklessly download a lot of things you don't know about. Also use proper anti-virus programs.

So honestly safty really depends more on yourself than on your OS.

Windows NT has been designed as a secure system with supplies for more security than what is implemented initially.

Unix-based operating systems (Linux and Mac) have stronger security fundamentally than Windows, and also have less viruses written for them. With the protections built into modern web browsers though, I'm pretty sure viruses are much less common.

I'd have to say Windows because I've never encountered a virus as of yet, and I've been using computers for a very long time. Never really used a Mac so I can't comment on that. 😛

If you have a good antivirus like avast!, then you'll be perfectly fine on Windows.

Linux is a safest Operating System but has somehow lack of user interface as Windows OS provides. Linux run on commands and it is difficult to people remember the commands. Linux is however an open source Operating System.

It just depends on what you do, if someone is going to hack you they are going to hack you, it just depends on their skill level. If you have a nice security software and it's updated, you should be fine. However Linux is probably the safest out of the three main OS's, but really, with all the modern technology it's hard for someone to get a virus unless you really have no idea what you're doing online.

I've heard from alot of people that Linux is the safest but I've never used it so I can't really say that for myself, though.
