Every forum has topics like this: "What is your favorite color." They can have some value, but not that much. Do you allow topics like this? Do you have a forum for those topics as not to increment post count or cash, but to still allow them?

I don't mind them, but I also don't tend to post in them myself. I allow them in the general chat section of the forum, where post count is enabled, though counting type forum games are in a forum without post count.

Doesn't really matter in the end, if people enjoy it, I'm fine with it.

I think that these topics are fine in the general discussion forum. I am not sure if it will be a popular topic but I think there is nothing wrong with it.

Personally in the off topic or intellectual discussion zones of the forum, I generally do allow them as they do add some posts to the board, just really not much value/quality ones to the site.

They are not exactly quality posts, but a forum needs some 'filler' as well, and they are easy questions to reply to. Admins should make sure that the majority of the posts in a forum is not "What's your favourite colour", "What are you listening to right now", "what did you have for dinner"

I don't mind having those topics because users enjoy having them. 🙂

I think it's all up to the owner of the site/forum to determine what kind of discussions they want and what kind of crowd you want to attract. Some of the biggest forums still have topics such as "Your breakfast this morning..." Or "What song are you listening to?" ...etc So, In my opinion I see nothing wrong with it, so as long as it's in the "Off-Topic" section.

I only ever allow these type of threads if they help get activity.

I don't really tend to post in them either, only if I'm bored or whatever. It's good for increasing post counts and stuff, but other than that there's really no value to it. Especially if it's the same question over and over again.

it's OK if it's placed in a general forum but since it's not really a forum games thread it shouldn't be put in a section where post count is turned off. 🙂

I do allow this kind of thread. It's interesting 😛
