What keeps you going?

We've all had times on our forum where it seems like no new members are coming, and members are becoming less and less active. So my question is: What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated to keep trying and keep going at it? And does it work? What exactly do you do that can help in a situation like that?

If you aren't going to take care of your forum, then what was the point of creating it in the first place instead of just wasting your time. If you feel like your forum is dying, then jsut don't go run off and get another forum and hope it will become just as active. All you would have to do is advertise and make some exchanges with users multiple times a day. It takes responsibility and effort to take care of your forum, and that's what you need in order to have your forum stable.

It has to be something you REALLY want to work. If you made a forum, just to be the admin, and made a forum after a popular forum you were on, then you're not going to be as interested; and you'll get yourself down when comparing daily stats with the competing forum.

You have to have a drive, self motivation. There's been many times where i wanted to give up; i actually felt my forum was dead ... even when we averaged 10 members online. 😀

It just really depends on how badly you want ti, and how passionate you are to keep it going, by any means necessary.

A dedicated admin, is a succesful one.

Even if only a couple of my good online friends showed up at my forums to chat, that would be enough to keep me going. Luckily Ive ran pretty successful forums so far so that is also a reason to keep me going. 😀

Well it seems that I've touched gold so far with this forum, which is the first forum that I created one hundred per cent myself. I've been a co-admin and a moderator on a few forums, but this is my first one.

I suppose that the desire to succeed is what kept my going most of the time. I saw a bunch of forums that I was on, fall in the dump of inactivity. I swore that this would never happen to my forum, and I intend keeping that promise.

I guess that the main thing that keeps a forum going is an active admin. Even when I was on holidays in France, I logged on in Wi-Fi hotspots and the like. I made sure to come on at least every second day.

For the first few weeks or so after I set it up, I had to be the top poster. This is the rule with every forum. If you don't post a lot yourself, it will die before it even is born.

That attitude has worked for me so far, and I hope it will keep on working! 😀

I was answering the question, to a general audience. didn't know you were asking for yourself.

The only time you can say your forum has died is when you give up! and the only reason some one would give up on their forum they were not ready to run a forum, and just wanted admin powers. Another reason they have no relation with the content of the forum.
