Alright, say if you owned a General Discussion forum. What keywords would you use? 😛

Just need ideas to help me out.

I think it depends all on what you would name it, and something about your tagline.

If I was to name it "Best General Discussions" most of my keywords would be based on my title.

Maybe you can give a quick research in keyword planner. You will be provided with good keyword suggestions for the general niche.

That's (one of the) problems with general forum: they're hard to categorize and since there are ten dozen of them in a dime, you have way too much competition. Just check what your competitors have as their main keywords and take it from there. They most likely have some sort of "overall" theme that they rank with.

Honestly, it won't be the answer you are looking for, but don't worry about SEO with a general forum - it just isn't worth it. No one really searches for something like 'general forum' so I would just focus on other promotional efforts if I was you. If you were to target anything I think 'Online Discussions' might be your best bet but nothing huge.

Yes it depends on your topic. Lets say your forum is money making forum. I would name it Money making General Discussion.

I think you should do the keyword research stage very carefully. First and foremost, this is the most important works. It decide the success of your SEO strategy.

I must agree with you. I do not think people will search: "discussion", "general discussion"... It should be narrowed.
You choose the discussion type, but you should clear your topic. Discussion may not be a topic to discuss.

I must agree with you. Is the keyword relevant to your website's content? Will searchers find what they are looking for on your site when they search using these keywords?

Easily, the off topic keyword, general chat, hang out forum, make friends forum. There's plenty of different keywords that you can use. Why haven't you tried google adword's keyword lookup script?

One thing you can do is that check competitors keywords and use google keyword planner tool, you will get nice idea..

Keyword should be focus to your forum or campaign. In case your sample keyword is General Discussion. i think so !

You can take help of keyword planner for getting effective keywords .

I have heard of keyword planners but never used one myself. What are some popular ones?

A keyword, in the context of search engine optimization, is a particular word or phrase that describes the contents of a Web page. Keywords are intended to act as shortcuts that sum up an entire page. Keywords form part of a Web page’s metadata and help search engines match a page to with an appropriate search query
