In your opinion, what makes a good, high quality thread? What does it include?
I think a good thread is at least 2-3 sentences long with proper spelling/grammar, has a good mix of facts and opinions, and includes a "lead" to give other members something to relate to or respond with. If there's nothing to really respond to, then it's hard to get a conversation going. In certain cases I think it is a good idea to include media too, like photos, links, Youtube clips, etc..
I think a good thread entails 2-3 sentences long, with good grammar and it's worth posting. Not something that's nonsense and it has no use to be posted.
If it's this generic, anything that contributes and evokes thought is a worthwhile thread, but anything that contributes greatly and evokes immense thought or amusement is a good thread.
I don't think the length of the thread always determines whether or not the thread is good. If someone can title their thread and then include a few words in their original post, but still incite pages of discussion and debate, they've created a good thread without even writing a full sentence.
Generally though, a good thread is one that brings new information to the readers, asks at least one question or requests replies and is unique. The original thread is important for starting discussions, but I think threads should be rated by the responses it gets, not by the original post. I'll take a poorly written thread post that brings in 100 replies over a high quality thread that brings in 5 replies.
Anything on-topic that can stand the test of time (as in replies in a couple of years would still be relevant), and is more than a simple question and answer. By which I mean, it can lead on to a more in-depth discussion than just answering a question in the thread and never needing to look at the thread again.
I think this is a good idea posting this thread - this way we can get a better understanding of what kind of posts people like to contribute to. I suppose one can get a general idea by simply scanning through current posts and how others respond but this actually gets people chiming in on the actual topic.
I enjoy reading threads that get people posting more than two or three sentences actually. When a thread gets a lot of detailed responses it spike my interest for sure.
