Many forums and sites out there often hold contests, raffles, competitions and the likes and it’s usually with the aim of getting the community together, or an activity boost or just something fun for the community.
My question is what makes you want to actually go and participate in them and take the time to do so?
Vote in the poll and tell me of anything else that motivates you to take part?
For me I think the best answer is 'none of the above'. The two reasons I'd join a forum are either because it has a great community spirit like FP or because it provides useful information (usually technical) that I want to discuss further.
I think when I participate I mostly do it just for the fun/competitiveness, it’s always nice if there is a cash or gift incentive to it as well though!
I just do it for fun at the end of the day! I enjoy posting on forums, if I earn extra perks while doing so then cool. Plus posting contests and the like add more activity and content to communities I enjoy visiting, so there's more people to talk to which is a plus!
I mainly like participating on forums that allow me to add a link to my site in my signature. It helps me build links, and climb the ranks in Google. Plus you also get a bit of referral traffic.
Of all the incentives cash or gift cards are the ones that might push me when "just for fun" is not too strong. Most of the times though, I join because the idea sounds neat, or already like the atmosphere. If I am familiar with the forum getting limited edition for bragging rights or a legacy spot in the community also get me going for a place that i care about!
