What is the longest period you have been a member in any community? Whay have you been active in that community for so long? Is it people, content, or how you feel when you participate?

Normally it's because I like the community and I enjoy discussing the topics with the people there.

Liking the community, having good conversations, being able to make friends and it being an active place is a couple of things that keep my active long term.

If I love the community enough to have a large post count, then I am dedicated to the community.

I'll stay as long as I'm engaged and not the only one posting new content.

I think that if you are a long-term member with a community that's been around for a long time, and you put so much work and effort into the community and as a member or staff, you do not want to lose that, and also feel that you want to continue, while not losing your life over it

You need to have interesting people who can have conversations independently of your 2/3 staff members. If you can find 5-10 of those people, forums are pretty easy.

The people, common interests, and whether or not the forum is active enough to appeal to me.

that I get along well with the community members, that the community is active, that the community continues to be of interest to me, etc.

When the community is active with good number of members..when the content are valuable and the Interactions is top notch. You get to associate with people of like minds.

Value it provides. I stay on the forum for long term if it benefits me either for learning and sharing, advertising benefits, etc.
