Being staff the one part I enjoy the most is being able to help people not only with things around the forum I am staff on but also in terms of content on their sites and also help in promoting their projects as well.
Community interaction is key to me. I love communicating and being able to have chats with other people. Sometimes it can lead to making new friendships or even just have a nice chat. Plus being staff gives you the ability to help out others depending upon the situation.
I enjoy helping out other website owners. It's very rewarding to help other admins out, plus being on the package team you get to join new forums and meet new people. 🙂
It depends on my role as a staff but generally, it's about helping new members find their landing in the community very easy. I struggled when I started using forums, it's why I love and enjoy helping others not to experience what I went through.
The staff world is amazing! So recently I was made a moderator and it just gets better. I clicked in faster than I thought, all the other staff are willing to help out where needed.
I feel like I've found a new family.
Also it's fun being able moderate the activities on a forum. Especially as newbie moderator you learn a lot and you are exposed to a new world entirely.
Once you have a taste of it, you wouldn't want to go back.
Logging on, reading all the new content and logging off without the need to take on staff responsibilities. It sounds lazy but for me it's an indication of a job well done.

Being staff on my forum - I love being able to control everything behind the scenes. I can choose to have ads or not. I can choose the rules. I can choose the sections/nodes. I like having the ability to make something that I can totally customize to what I envision the community to be! 🙂
Being staff on another forum - I enjoy helping grow the forum. I loved being staff here, but I got behind and felt that I wasn't doing my part, and that's why I resigned. If I'm not doing a part of getting the forum growth rate up, then I'm failing as staff.
I like to help and to feel like I'm contributing, so being staff helps in that regard, but sometimes you fall into a trap where you end up helping on so many different things that you overwhelm yourself and need to step back. Now I've decided I will help people on projects, but I'm not going to jump on staff on every forum that offers it to me, lol. Ones where I feel I can do some good, absolutely. Ones where it's just because I'm active and posting? No, thanks, I can continue contributing exactly as I was before. FP's a great example -- I joined staff because I felt I could contribute, and indeed I think I did (I hope I did?), but things in my personal life got...unpleasant...and I had to step down, but I have a soft spot for FP and loved my time helping. It wasn't a "I want to join staff to be on staff," it was a case of wanting to help a forum I genuinely enjoy. Those are the communities I will gladly help, because that collaboration, that push towards a goal makes it so much more fun.
