What prizes do you give out?

What kind of contests does your forum have and what are some of the prizes that are given out? Do you feel that they are prizes that make your members want to participate in these contests?

I am currently running a posting competition on my forum and the prize is PayPal money.

I ask this because I want to hold some competitions/contests on my board but I'm unsure of a great prize (perferably one that is free of cost) and still want to make my members feel like that they will get something out of it.

Contests: Posting competitions, Graphics Competitions, podcast competition.
Prizes: Free VIP access and personal rank, free posts, free graphics, all the basics.

We use to run a Sig of the Week contest as well as a few random little games every now and then.
Prizes would be unique sigs/banners to wear, maybe a special rank to wear for a week.

I just ran a contest.. The prize was a .info domain, one month free advertising in the global header and a custom rank image made specially for the winners.
The top two winners won the prize as .info's are cheap and I had 2 spaces in the header for adverts. 😀

As my forum is for the slightly older generation......I used to run a Pub Quiz once a week, the prize was a bottle of spirits of their choice sent in the post. The only thing I failed to omit was that it was a miniature bottle :lol:

I've been organising different kinds of contests.
One is the Writing Contest where members will be given a theme and a word count. They get 7 days and then they must have posted a story. If they win, they got an award and rep points.
Same goes for the Mystery Photo Contest, that's where we give members a small fragment of a photo. They must guess what's on the photo and we will gradually give them clues.

Our prizes we have for our compititions is based on our forum subjects plus cash prizes.

I usually give some posts to their forum and custom theme or increase hosting package (if they use my hosting)

Forum money. You mean for contests held right on our board? Forum money. I instituted it originally back a little over a year ago as a way to regulate rare items in the game without having to ban them. I was surprised to find that people will go to extraordinary lengths to earn this money. We've even had to ban 2 people for fraud--most commonly creating multiple accounts in order to defraud the referral programme and cheat their way into more points. but I think it's helped somewhat since we instituted a ban on multiple accounts and made examples of the banned cheaters to make it clear that people can't get away with it.

I dont have a forum ATM, so I cant hold a contest. 😛

But, some ideas could be: refferal contest, posting contest, website graphics contest (they make graphics for your forum) Prizes; Paypal Money, Forum currency, Paid forum software license (IPB,vBullitin), Sports magazines (since it's a sports forum) and much more. Be creative with the prizes and you'll attract more users.
