My Anti-Virus uses around 5MB of RAM and 1-2% CPU, surely that wont make a difference 😉

Oh I knew and had used both Avast and Avg before, now they merge in to one big guy. I think that's good 😀

Macs need security, there's lots of malware for them now.

Even if you don't download anything, something can download itself and open itself without you knowing until the damage is done.

Avast Free for Mac is a good option.

Apple does a good job of patching the vulnerabilities. Could you provide some links of the "malware" that is still running wild in macOS? Not saying there isn't, I just do not believe there is as many as you believe.

That is not how macOS works - depending on your security preferences. I would take a look here: http://www.apple.com/macos/security/

And, if I was to get an AV, I would go with BitDefender. 🙂
