Okay, Chatting Time is officially five months old this month. However, Ash and I have already run out of ideas for new posts, and according to one member, we are running the forum "wrong" and I got to admit I agree. I don't want to change my niche, but I just can't stand the stress of this anymore. And before any of you say anything, it is NOT going to be a case of closing this forum down and opening a new one two weeks later, I can promise you that. We have been going at this for almost 5 months and the stress is finally getting to me. It's just coming to the edge for me and I really do not have the drive anymore. By the way, our url is http://www.chattingtime.com I'll think about this over the weekend, talk about it with my co-administrator, and find out what we should do. I almost want to close down and just be a member of already active forums for good. Because I know I'm a better member than I am an administrator anyways.... 🙁
Personally, I think Chatting Time is still in great shape. I don't understand why you are worrying. There will always be something to discuss on forums. Due to current events, etc, you can't really run out of ideas for posts. You could always just post world news, etc.
Give your forum a major change. Maybe a change in structure, change in design, a change in features. People are looking for something new and when they see it, chances are they will begin to post a lot and you will find that extra bit of motivation to continue on.
Ask the member who said you're running it wrong, what they think is wrong about what you're doing. Listen to them, and if there's something on the forum they would like to have that you are able to do, try doing that.
If you don't have any new ideas for the website and you prefer to be a member on a forum, rather than an administrator, then you should sell the forum at Digital Point or another website to earn a little cash, while the forum has a little activity, of course.
All you really need to do is keep making updates every once in a while. If you are in too much pressure running it, get some more staff! Also make sure you encourage posting. If there is no posting, then no one will stay.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys, but I really feel that the best decision would be to close the forum. I would hire staff, but I just don't really want to have the forum any longer. As for selling on Digital point, I don't have paypal, nor do I want to set one up, just for something like this. We may still be in good shape, but I think the best thing to do would be to close while we're still ahead. Also, all the spamming and hacking attempts this last summer, it's just not worth putting up with it anymore. I think Im just going to close the forum cold turkey. I won't be starting any new projects, nor will I be accepting any staff positions either. There's just too much going on in my life at the moment, and even if I do successfully hand the board over, I don't want to worry about what will become of that place, even if the new owner does say it's in good hands. It's hard to know who to trust in the foruming world, and I'm just not willing to take that risk. I don't have the energy for this anymore, and anyways, when I do do a forum, there are days when I'll only come on and lurk but never post. My health's been acting up, got too many things going on, and I think the less worry I have the better. We already got a schedule going of what's planned for the next week, so the decision is definetly final.
You say the exact thing every single time and come back with it a few weeks or months later, either close the board, not delete it, and come back when your ready, or leave it open and hire a admin until you want to come back.
Keeping a forum for 5 months and in good shape isn't an easy task, so I think that it would be a bad decision to close it. That would only mean that have fear to succeed. I would suggest you, to see that forum as something serious that may change your life, if you manage to survive for much longer time.
Just go around looking at many forums and gather up ideas from them and do something with the ideas, add more boards to your forum to post in, do some competitions and stuff.
