I've demoted a admin due to spamming but I feel as if I shouldn't have.
A member asked about the point system and I told him what one it is and the demoted admin says 'Yes it is'. He already knew it was, but the demoted admin still said that to spam.
...What should I do? He's active and everything but he spams
Don't make him an admin again until he has time to potentially cool off. If he's angry and you make him an admin again he may destroy the forum. Once you think he has 0% chance of being angry over it consider reinstating him.
If a topic has already been sorted, by normal circumstances with a forum administrator that is usually called spamming. I wouldn't add him again if I were you, JakJak. Not if he's going to reply to feedback threads and other threads that have been resolved or that it's obvious the discussion has been closed, because all he's doing is just spamming the feedback section, and that's not right. I would not, under any circumstances, add him back to the team. If he asks you why you have demoted him, politely state your reasons for doing so. Hope this helps.
Well, if he already has three or more warnings (and from your post it sounds like he has more) you should definetly demote and possibly even ban. Because as a former staff member, he's not setting a good example for the rest of the community. And setting a good example does not mean replying to feedback sections after they have been dealt with or the discussion has been closed. If you don't have the heart to ban him, just tell him via PM that if a topic is done, it's done, and that's the end of discussion and he shouldn't be replying to it anymore. But by all means, if he continues to be rude and arragant towards you and other staff members, you simply will have to ban him, because he's not worth keeping around. Have an IP Deny Manager? (should be in the Cpanel if you do. I know the one I'm using has one) enter his IP in that so that he can't come back to the forum any longer. Someone like him is just not worth putting up with.
That's another thing: Never do warnings as a joke, and I mean never with a capital N. That'll only get your members mad at you, and if it keeps up, they may never want to visit your site again.
Well, some people can take a hint that it's only a joke, and some are sensitive about it... it all depends on who you're dealing with, really. But as long as he seems to be okay with the fact that he's getting loads of warnings for no reason, then that's fine. I guess I was thinking along the lines of an average member who would get offended because they got warned for no reason at all. Also, as long as you don't have it where it's so many warnings before he's automatically banned (as most boards do) then you're okay, there, too.
By the way, only the staff can lock topics. We members can't.
I don't mean to tell you how to do your job, but I don't think an admin should have been demoted because of doing something outside of his administration ability. If he broke the rules, that shouldn't abuse his status. If he did do something that abused his status, then I could see you demoting him.
