What are some of the restrictions you have in place for signatures on your forum?

You know I never really have any restrictions put into place for signatures. Most people don't have large signatures on my forum. I don't even mind if members promote their websites in their signatures either.

Mostly dimension sizes, but also nothing that can cause seizures and such with flashing imagery, nor having any excessively large animations that can take time to load and slow down anyone's experience. I feel most signature rules are covered by board rules so all that gets left is the stuff that can only apply to a signature, such as size.

Same as above honestly. I try to allow as much as possible as long as it doesn’t affect anyone else in a bad way, but also keep them within a decent height. I’ve always used 150px as a good height limit. Most people on the forums I’m apart of rarely use signatures.

I ask that people don't put those extremely flashy banners in that might cause me to seize lol.

Other than that, as long as it's family friendly and not spam, put whatever you want on them 🙂

Since anyone can see them, they must be work-safe. No "adult" banners.
I agree with that - of course, I do hide signatures from guests as a way to prevent people joining for backlinks.

Do you allow guests to see signatures even with links?

I don't really like having a set in stone dimension for banners, I just don't want it to take as much or more space than an actual post.
Definitely keeping everything PG, since most of the communities I managed were open for all ages. I'm fine with linking to their websites so long said places don't have a rule against doing the same thing.

Thinking back to the days I used to be active, one of the first things members will be testing is what they can get away with their profiles. I remember I had to ask some of my loyal members that had multiple images and stuff to choose one to keep out and keep the rest in a spoiler tag, that seemed to work pretty well. I supposed back in the early 200's big images was a bigger deal because loading big images would actually slow the loading of a site, so imagine this super active poster having their images being loaded (even inside of spoiler tags) every third post in a thread, but as time went on it stopped being that much of a deal.

I do hide signatures from guests as a way to prevent people joining for backlinks.
That's pretty clever. I am not sure if that's something most forum software let you do nowadays, but definitely worth looking into.
