Facebook is one of the best social networking site to promote websites. It helps to increase traffic to your website and builds quality backlinks.
 
Twitter tends to result in spikes but long term Facebook works better as posts appear more regularly in someone's home stream.
 
It really depends on your target group and the nature of your business. I've had best experience with Facebook and Google+.

I would say twitter because you can hashtag.... You can on facebook to but I don't think as many people use hashtags on FB.
 
I have to go with Facebook because like the first person said, you can make groups. there's more chance of people sharing them that will also help.
 
I hear that a lot of people use Reddit however I haven't heard the best reviews about it. It work for some people, but for the majority, it didn't. I personally feel like if anything twitter would work. But that's just me, I don't really use social media for promotion related matters it's more for just personal use.
 
It definitely depends on how many followers you have on Twitter/instagram/Facebook. For me, I have many more friends on Facebook than any other social network, so advertising to Facebook nets me more views than other social networks. If you can manage to write a good tweet, you can get yourself retweeted a bunch which is nice if you used proper #tags and included a URL to your site in the tweet 🙂 (has to be related to your tweet).

Instagram is nice, but better for physical products than virtual ones.
 
For me, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Google+ is working well.
You can also use reddit to discuss any topic that may drive people to your site. But you need to be very smart for that.
Try Scoop.it, tumblr, etc. They also can help you.

I have always found Twitter to work the best for me. A fair proportion of the members I have at THF are from people who have found my Twitter account and joined the forum. The other networks haven't met the same level of success for me sadly.
 
Facebook & Pinterest provide best traffic. they can bring you a lot of traffic..
 
It's tough to respond. I have web sites that have ONLY facebook likes, looks like we don't exist on other social media outlets. Some do better with Twitter and in some niches Pinterest is the biggest traffic source. I'd say take few of them for a spin (I'd focus on the main ones: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, G+, LinkedIn and maybe Instagram and see which convert better.
