What sort of tech reviews do you prefer?

So as you may or may not know, I do technology reviews for my blog Geeks Hut. I'm wanting to know what sort of reviews you prefer, very long reviews like you find here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6747/htc-one-review (at the bottom of the article there's a dropdown box to go to the next section. Anandtech provides reviews which are really in-depth and around 10,000ish words) or something a bit smaller like what you would find here:http://pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/pcw.nsf/mobile/review-samsung-galaxy-s4 ?

I ask this because I'm getting sent the Samsung Galaxy S4, and i'm wanting to know whether I should go all out and write a review which is really detailed but very long (could take you a while to read), or something along my current style of 1,000-2,500 words long which isn't as in-depth, but you can read and get my opinion of the device quickly.

I think your best bet is to provide in depth review with a link to the 'final impressions' part of your review. That will help you encompass those readers who want deep analysis and those who readers who are just interested in brushing off a conclusion 😀

Sounds good, I have been thinking that I should angle to do very in depth reviews, but wasn't sure if people would have the time to read them.

I prefer long reviews so I can understand the product in depth. It is also nice to have a "Final Remarks" about the device, as previously mention. The important thing about going in depth, however, is that you do not just write a huge block of text. I find reviews easiest to follow when they are broken up into categories.

I think for such a big release you should do a long review, but maybe at the start of the article link to the final paragraph, so that people can easily skip to the end.

When writing for the web, you need to remember that readers can and will pick and choose what they read in a single article very freely. Because of that, the more you have, the more likely a reader is to read even one paragraph in your article. It also doesn't matter how long it is, because the reader can jump around, come and go, etc. and doesn't have to read the whole thing all the way through in a linear fashion.

I like shorter articles since I read most of my tech news on a 7 inch Tablet via reader apps like Flipboard, Feedly, and Pulse, and I like to read about the important points which are exclusive to the device like TouchWiz for Samsung phones rather than Android features like Google Play.

We're now using tabs separating the different parts of the devices, and also a summarized version of the review so we keep everyone happy.

For me it is "Shorter reviews which aren't as indepth but allow me to find out the authors opinion quickly". However it depends what I am searching though. Most of the time I just want to know how good it is and don't go into the detail but if I want to purchase something like a Computer then I may go into detail with the specs and performance so this highly depends on the thing itself.

I voted for the shorter option, while the long detailed reviews are helpful the shorter are better for an overall view if you trying to compare a few similar products.

That said, the "optimal" review in my opinion would be where there's a short review, with a more in depth version being linked, or kind of as a summary at the start of the post after which I can decide if it is worth scrolling down and reading the full review.

Depending on product I'm looking at it may be the case that the shorter review makes it clear that it is not gonna do what I want and thus can skip the longer one, or vice versa.
