What the heck is a Node?

Okay, I was on Twitter, and I put my board on disability because this is what's happening on our host:

We are switching nodes because the node that we are on is at fault for all the downtime from the past 1-4 days. We will keep you updated!

Can someone explain to me what a "node" is? Hopefully there is no more downtime after this.

Basically its any computer that is connected to a network or computers. If one computer goes down, you will need to use another node. This cannot be the direct fault of the host, rather the server's location having issues. However, excessive bandwidth may cause a node to crash, hence why downtime may happen.
