Yeah, as you'd have expected people got screwed over.

All sorts of bad about this show. Did anyone watch this show?

I've heard a lot of bad things about this show. The part that makes me hate the show is that because of them people end up losing their homes because they can't afford the colossal increase in property tax.

Yes same. I read that Reddit thread sometime ago and came back to it thanks to the video I watched above.

We Brits do not want to see Americans' style... No thanks

I watched the show years ago. While it always looks good, you gotta know there's more to it. They show just enough drama to keep viewers intrigued but don't show anything negative.

There was a time where Trading Spaces was in my town. My mother in law got pictures of the set of the show. I think it's pretty cool that she did, but most of these reality shows usually do carry some baggage with them. It's staged to keep the audience interested most of the time in these types of shows.

I don't think they ever did a UK version of this show. If they did, I am sure it'd be just to rebuild it and keep it simple for the family. Not built a mansion or whatever.

I feel like this show was not about drama or anything. It felt more real to me than any other 'reality show'. Note the show was made in 2004 and ended in 2012 on ABC. Also note there's Extreme Makeover, then Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I just realized that, my fault.

Yeah, I loved Trading Spaces! Good stuff for sure. Also yeah, they all carry some form of baggage with them. I also again don't feel this show was that staged or scripted. This was made in 2004. I could be wrong, though.

Came to say exactly this.. but this is often the case with a lot of those shows, even the ones on HGTV where they give away the newly built house with a brand new truck etc.

But really shows like this are good to use as inspiration for fixing up your own house.. but I will say that as a new home owner, even that scares me because I am afraid that if we do too good of a job, that we will cause our property taxes to go up quickly.. our property value has gone up 20+% since we moved in last year.. and we haven't even done anything yet..

But what is truly surprising is the number of people who don't know how fake these shows are.. even and especially House Hunters and other shows like it..
