My forum recently hit a record low of 2 posts (in a day) this week and I'm wondering what to do. At the beginning of April, we were averaging 55 posts a day (97 one day) and then it slowly declined. I have a little to do with this as I've been really busy, however, I'm still trying post exchanges and creating new topics. What to do?

I'm sure if you posted a suggestion to Ryan about ZB he might do it. There is support for some free forum software hostings like icyboards.

I think that might be your answer right there. If you want your forum to be busier you need to spend more time posting and participating on it yourself.

I'm the only one posting. What should I do about this, though?

You can ask some of your real life and online friends, family, and co-workers who are interested in your forums topic if they like to join your forum.

A posting contest or other sort of contest might make your forum more active.

Do some post exchanges perhaps? Also run a contest like froggyboy604 suggested and contact all your current members to tell them about the contest and invite them to participate.

Advertise! Not just on promotion forums, you are my only active member that came to mario forums from a promotion forum (other than exchanges) - everybody else came from otherr forums I post on. Advertise in your signature, and ask your forum friends to join. Try an active for active exchange. Any exchange that isn't active for active doesn't really help.

As an admin the main thing you need to offer is more topics. New members generally do not post new topics but get sucked in to respond to something. From my years working with forums I find that staff makes most of the topics and then the replies come rolling in.

You can also try making your forum easier to join.

I notice you have a warning on your registration page which says:

Do not post or link to adult content on this board.

Do not post or link to content which infringes on or violates existing copyrights.

Please refrain from posting spam on this board.

Always remember to respect the other members of this board.

then a "I agree" button before you can enter the registration page which already has a Zetaboard terms of service on the right side.

Maybe you can try disabling the optional registration questions since it might confuse people who did not read the "optional" heading

I think they can fill out their

Time Settings
Xbox Live GamertagMax length: 100
PlayStation Network IDMax length: 100
Wii Friend Code

in their profile settings when they join.

Some new members don't like E-mail activation since it can be a hassle.

You can try using a captcha code or registration question like 1+1 = 2 instead of e-mail activations for users before hey can begin posting.

Have you been communicating with your members to see what's going on? I know I do post exchanges as well sometimes, to help boast activity, and it works. Are you using Postloop? If not, I'd recommend using it. :great:
