I am currently ranked on like the 7th page of Google for a low-competition keyword I am going after. This isn't too bad as I just started my blog. Does anyone have any tips on how I can layout my blog post so I can move up in this ranking? Thanks.

The layout of your blog is less important than the actual content!
Google's new algorithm updates place emphasis on having good, unique & well written content on your website.
To get your website higher up in the rankings, focus on:
Writing a well-structured, unique & informative article ever 3-4 days for your site. (include videos whenever possible!)
Approach other blog owners who have a high authority blog & ask permission if you could guest post on their blog. (cannot be the same content as on your own blog!) & ask if they would allow you to place a link in the guest post back to your article.
When placing an outbound link on your own content on your site, do not always use your primary keyword as the anchor text. Vary this so that it looks natural (i.e. use different keywords & even generic terms like "click here for more info")

This whole writing posts and content for search engine things is the complete wrong way of going about running a website, and why I find most sites nowadays filled with meaningless spam, clickbait crap articles and stuff that's devoid of any substance.
