If you are a forum owner, how and who do you get hosting from? Shared, VPS or dedicated?

I have a VPS myself in Baltimore, MD through http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/reliable- ... timore-md/. I host off a low end box (LEB) VPS, which is defined as a VPS under $7/month, and before you think "must be an un-reliable host", many LEB hosts are pretty professionally ran, but you just gotta choose the right one.

You?

EDIT: I have the LEB #2 plan.

I use a 512M droplet from DigitalOcean for $5/mo or $0.007 cents/hr. Hosted in SF, CA.

I have used a lowend vps for a forum before. It didn't work out too well. 😛 It was way to much hassle to fix Kloxo (the only real alternative to cPanel at the time) to make everything work.

There are a couple of other great cPanel alternatives if you are wanting a cheap vps. EHCP and zPanel. 🙂

I don't have any forums currently though. I do still have a 2Gb ram lowendvps which I have a play with now and then.

Shouldn't really use a Control Panel with a LEB, Unless it's a 512MB or 1GB.
I wouldn't suggest zPanel as there is rumored to be a security flaw (zsudo iirc). Softaculous has a Control Panel called webuzo, From what I understand the difference between free and paid is less scripts to install. (Basically softaclous with single user hosting capabilities.)

Currently have a 'clan' forum on Zetaboards and in the process of integrating Teamspeak with Mybb and switching over to that soon which will be on a VPS.

I use either A Small Orange for Shared, or Linode and DigitalOcean for VPS. ASO is a great shared host if you're just starting out but if you get any bigger then it might be a good idea to look out for a worthy VPS solution such as the ones I've been using.

Currently setting up Geeks Hut for InMotion Hosting 🙂 Moving right now.

Most of our Clients are hosting their Forums, eCommerce sites on a VPS Hosting plan. These type of sites leads to High CPU Usage hence the owners must choose VPS to host Forums, eCommerce sites.

I have an ESXi Dedicated Server from imagineLayer which I use to spin up new Linux VMs as I require them - Then as they get more successful, I transfer them over to Windows since I prefer Windows as a server OS.

I have a shared hosting account on UZR Hosting. 🙂

I use Hostgator as well. Rarely goes down, but did have a bit of trouble for a day and a half last week while they updated their servers. A data center had issues.

However, I find them very helpful at all times of the day with 24/7 live chat support, phone support, email ticket support.

I have a dedicated server that I bumped up all the way from the smallest package they have over a few years on one of my big forums. I have a few tiny packages for each vbulletin forum I host, never have 2 vbulletins on the same hosting plan.

I like them, however I haven't tried out anyone else. Didn't think I needed to with the support and service I'm provided with.

Just signed up for Hawkhost after a few recommendations and it's great so far. I've contacted support a few times and every-time they respond within minutes.
