You know it's hard to come up with a niche for a forum these days, since most if not all specific topics are covered. What's a niche that you can think of that you rarely see someone coming up with? And if this is a niche, is there already a well established community based around it? One niche I don't really see being promoted here is Urban Exploration, there used to a forum I joined years ago and would post on but it got hacked and was eventually taken offline. There's plenty of videos online that show many different people exploring abandoned buildings, so there's definitely people interested in this hobby. There's a few subreddits I browse that many people post their pictures and videos of their explorations on.

I'm a game collector, and a big part of that is the thrill of the hunt. Pawn shops, charity shops, thrift stores, garage sale, conventions, game stores, antique malls, all sorts of places to look high and low. I would love a community built around fellow hunters. Talking about their finds at flea markets, etc. Tips on a successful hunt, cataloguing your collection so you know what to pick up or avoid, valuations, rarity guides, game sales for older "new" games going on clearance, down to pennies on the dollar, etc. I know CheapAssGamer caters to some of this market, but it would be nice to see communities all about sharing the thrill of the hunt.

That would be a cool community. 🙂 I have a coworker who finds some odd and cool things at Goodwill and he's always bringing them in for us. Just recently he found a old American Flag that had 48 stars on it! So it was before Hawaii and Alaska were part of the US. He actually found it at his wife's friend's house, she was moving and had a bunch of random stuff in her house.

That's amazing!! I love when people find obscure, rare things!

I have been using forums since 2015 and I have seen and even used forums on most niches. I do not see any niches that have not been explored.

I'm trying a specific niche for animal lovers. Most people like animals and most people have pets. So far, Critters has been open a little over 2 weeks and it's doing very well so far.

Mental health forums seem to be in decline. No one really makes new ones and some people just don't want to join or post about it either. 🙁

I'd like to see a forum working out with this. I say someone should try this idea!

Funnily enough I have been approached about exactly that, and it might happen 😉

There's a lot of TV and film series that could have a forum started but that would be a hard one.

I think a forum on gambling and casinos is not something that is common. I only know one which is casinoforum.io. And it is a paid to post forum.

Used to be some for Walking Dead, The Simpsons, and even Futurama years ago. Don't recall how well they did though.

I tried one briefly for American Horror Story. But there isn't enough people on forums that watch that show.

I remember that community. I think we had a good run though. 🙂 It's been a long time since I've even watched AHS. I feel most communities based around a specific show can be very hard to make these days.

I think the niche that is hardly done is adult niche. I have never heard or seen an exclusively adult forum.

I think my site has a very unique niche. It's basically a mental asylum where members are "patients" trapped by a mad doctor/Admin (me). It's a social hybrid site with a lot of custom work. 🙂

Any niche that you narrow down into.

The admin and promotion forum niche is oversaturated but if you make an admin forum just admin forums or a promotion forum just for gaming forums, then that would be unique.

Take a topic you are passionate about (generic niche) and then narrow it down a level or two or three.

Gaming forums are the most oversaturated and narrowing down just one level might not be enough. So, for example, a "call of duty forum" is still oversaturated, but a "call of duty forum for women players only" would be something unique enough to dominate that market.

However, as you narrow down your niche, you also narrow down your audience. You can always create a "general section" for the main niche on the forum to attract everyone but still put more emphasis on your narrowed levels to make your forum stand out.

There are actually quite a few. I've run adult forums for almost 30 years, and still do! 🙂

They're definitely out there! If you're looking for specific ones trust me a forum for it exists. There are also subreddits too, but a lot of the forums have been around for decades at this point.

I don't use Reddit anymore. Too toxic if you ask me! Forums have always been my favorite type of site, long before "social media" ever existed, and remain my favorite!
