What's out for forums in 2022?

What used to be popular with forums and is now on the way out or has been out this past year?

In the past arcades were really in but they've been out for a while. What else?

Only thing I can think of is forums themselves, pretty much everything else for a forum wouldn't be taken away.

I've seen a few chatboxes but not very many and I think only one was active. We used to have one on Christianity Haven but it died out.

I see and most can agree that having chatboxes can kill of content and activates on the forums

That's what happened at first on Christianity Haven. Members were trying to have theological discussions in the chat instead of the threads and once we told them the chat was for fun it died.

Since covid-19 far more people are working from home more than ever and also means that far more people are being online. It can help forums but is still not as active as we should be seeing it as.

Chat box. I do not think people would want to use them. Because forums already have problems generating quality traffic.

I have a chatbox on one of mine that doesn't get used, I think it's time to retire it.

I've always felt that chatboxes took away from forum activity.

I think forums will always be a thing, Google still relies on them but whether it be like Xenforo style ones I cant tell the future but for now they do work more than fine!

I can certainly see chatboxes going away as forums gain more social features and the need for them is simply not there. I'm sure some sites use them well, but I don't see a need for just having one.

Every time I had a chat or shout box addon, it took so much activity away from the forum.
I use XF software now. I have the Resources addon and the Media addon. Other addons I have just add some features to already established out of the box features. I don't think I'll be adding many more addons, especially those that take away from the forum.

Can't see it ever going away, unfortunately. We're getting a few manually registered "spam" members recently which is quite annoying.
