Let's say your forum community was very active for a long time. But maybe there was some bad blood among members. This has happened on my own forum. And, I'm sure it's happened with other forums at one time or another. The important thing is to pick up the pieces and move on. But sometimes, the poison is so invasive and hurt feelings run deep. How can you clean up the damage in a poisoned forum so that you can have a strong and vibrant community again?

This actually happened on my forum not too long ago. Me and another member had a big falling out and we were great friends before it. I was fighting with him back and forth for a while but I started noticing our members asking for it to stop. I should had stopped long before... but I am only human, right?!

However, I am not over the issue and back again focusing on making the forum more active. I even allowed the guy to stay and just made sure that any further arguments about the previous situation should be done in private message and not on the community.

I would say to ban the troublesome member, or just make a completely new forum without the poisoned member, and invite everyone else to it.

In life away from forums not everyone will get on, there will be arguments and such, it's bound to happen in any kind of community, (including forums) that's life. Heated topics can be locked until things cool down, members can be suspended i've never banned anyone yet for squabbling as 9 times out of 10 it gets diffused. There is no way I would shut a forum down over petty squabbling, if you have a member really disrupting the place they can be banned if it becomes necessary.

It'll happen. I think a lot pif the forum culture flows top-down. Sounds superstitious, but i think it's true often enough. So I try to always keep a professional distance, even in my mind. Sometimes these things can get solved when people talk in private. If they keep stirring on the boards, it often goes from bad to worse.

I had this once. A moderator was rogue and did it in a manner that wasn't noticeable, and a lot of the community were turned away by them. I banned them and then members came back, and we all agreed to restart the forum from scratch to remove all traces of all the bad times we'd endured because of that person.
