On my forum, the worst thing that ever happened was when a (now banned) admin let power go to his head and harassed several forum members. Though he was quickly banned, the damage was done and those members never wanted to come back. Even before then, there were signs of trouble as he cyber stalked me online whenever I was on to the point that I did not want to get online for fear he would be there trying to talk to me. I don't mind talking to my staff, but he tried to personalize things way too much. All this happened quickly so it was a big surprise to have him go from happy go lucky fun admin to stalker/harasser. It was a big shock.
Looking back at it, people always say to me, "Oh! Why didn't you do this? or that!?" and it's easy to judge when you're not living through it or it hasn't happened to you. It's just hard to know what to do in the situation if you haven't faced it before.

I lost my backup, and had to start over from scratch. We've had 5000+ posts before that happened, and had to start again with 0 posts. My forum is back to 2400+ posts.

Getting hacked. This was a website, not a forum. And recently we lost the live status as there was some nasty interfering php script that hostgator complained about. No idea..
Getting hacked with some ghastly homepage plastered in has to be one of the worst things..

I tried using vanilla forum software with private hosting and found that they did not support transferring data that way so I lost all my data when I merged to new software. It took a couple days for members to understand what had happened and come back.

The worst that's probably happened was when Marie 1988 first opened back up after that months long hiatus. This one guy kept registering to post pornography crap and spam the crap out of the place. Learning a long time ago that confronting these idiots only fueled their fire, I didn't call them out on their behavior in any way.
Just kept banning them and deleting their rubbish and eventually they stopped.
It would probably be when I transferred ownership of my site to a co admin, and then in return he deleted all 206 of my members; and I lost that site since it was his and he would not let me recover it all.
Yeah... that wasn't fun. :lol: Or the time when we kept getting hit by trolls back to back - we initially made the mistake of trying to reason with them but that didn't work out at all. lol
Getting sabotaged by a former staff member who turned out to be a psychotic scumbag, although the swift recovery process made us even bigger than before.
