What small thing bugs you when you see it on someone's forum? For me, it's when the "friendly redirect" is on for everything. I just really can't stand seeing that dumb page every five seconds. 😛

I can't stand a huge number of subforum. It makes the forum hard to navigate. I want to be able to find everything, easily.

When a forum or website is unorganized and sloppy.

When a forum or website color scheme does not match or over done.

Full screen ads that have a timer before you can skip it (Very annoying and I tend to leave these websites/forums immediately)

Strangely enough, I have the same peeves as the other posters.

That friendly redirection page + spam prevention page and security questions that you need to google to answer...

My pet peeve is guidelines which are written in a very overbearing tone, particularly when seen in a small forum.

For example "Violation of these rules will result in a temporary or permanent ban," and then proceeding to spell out warning points, etc. Generally, it feels to me as if admins who write such rules are itching to ban someone, and I don't want to join that type of forum.

Another pet peeve is forums that have the flood limit on. You post and then you wait so long before you can post again.

Oh my goodness I hate friendly redirects as well!

That and post and search flood limit times. I understand it's a precaution to prevent spammers, but it gets on my nerves.

The part I bolded is the part that irks me more than anything. That's the first thing I bring up when I hit the feedback section because I know sites like this one frown heavily on limitations like that when completing a package request, and I can't blame these people: I'd be pretty annoyed too if I tagged someone's package request and they had all these limits turned on. And then people wonder why their request is denied half the time? Um, that may be why, folks!

I also hate friendly redirects, too many staff members, more than 2-3 advertisements, and when a forum is using a default theme with no customizations.

When there are so many subforums it jacks up the rest of the "flow" of the other boards.

Oh, and when there is a list of mods for each board. You know when you see a board and it'll have "Moderators:" - yeah, I hate that. I even see forums with the admins group in there, and I find it all pretty pointless. They are an admin, I would hope they would be a mod on that board.

All though I suppose that explains why I cannot stand sectional mods with the powers of moderation stuck to only certain boards. 😛

For me, my pet peeves are excessive use of abbreviations, spelling errors, and evident lack of grammar. I find these things very distracting and if I have to sit there and try to decipher what you're describing it bugs me and ultimately turns me off.

Here's another pet peeve: Tabs instead of categories. 😛 At some point, I should write a thread on why I think it's a bad idea.

Agreed, the dreaded tabs are so annoying. Sometimes you find a forum that makes it work but usually it's just a nuisance.

Actually, I would be quite interested to see your opinion about this. My forum uses tabs and would like to know if there are any disadvantages to using them. 🙂

Tabs are just very annoying in my opinion, I would rather scroll down and see all the topics and if they were read or unread, but then now I gotta add clicking to it, click all the tabs and see who has posted in those sections recently.

I don't know what it is, I find it a pain.

The only way I see tabs working out is if you have a VERY active forum with a lot of extremely active subforums. I've been on some forums where most of the subforums have 100,000+ posts, and each one gets a post every minute or so. At this point, you're not so much worried about activity if you have a memberbase like that, so I think dividing up the forum into smaller areas where people would normally hang out isn't a bad idea. Most forums don't need something like this though, and I'd agree that tabs are a bad idea 9 times out of 10.

For me, it is finding a forum hard to navigate. I can't stand not finding what I'm looking for or finding it difficult to post a specific topic on a forum. If a forum is not easy to navigate, I will quickly go somewhere else.

I absolutely can NOT stand when a forum goes above and beyond their genre/topic. If you are a forum about Nature and you have a category strictly for television, what's the point? I can understand how they would want to make it solely for activity purposes but it just doesn't make sense to me.
