Everyone has a story on why they manage websites or moderate forums. Why did you start your own forum/blog/website? What is behind your motivation and dedication? Do you have a reason why you like being a moderator or admin on a forum?

This'll be a fun one.

I pretty much get bored with everything when it comes to not being on a computer. So to make my time worthwhile online I decided to make websites. I have been through 4 years of managing my own websites on/off.

My motivation, is the users. Or rather, user interaction on topics that interest me. While I code websites or do random crap with my free-time, I will always find a time to respond to people's posts if the topic is appropriate.

My other motivation is web design/coding. Now while I do like PHP Coding, I don't like when I have to do it for others >_>. There's a vibe somewhere that tells me to rush for whatever reason, even if they tell me I can take however long I need. My comfort zome is just coding alone without instructions or other people looking over me. If I am not coding, 100% of my other time would go to web design and what the site would look like in the future. And as such, hours hours would pass by before i can actually come up with a design because of all my fantasizing >_>.

I don't particularly like being an admin or Moderator, but the responsibility is there by default so I have to deal with it. In the end I just like talking to people whether it be anonymously or on my own site.

TL;dr
I like to code and design, I like interacting with users, i like being carefree when managing websites.

On another note I really like ForumPromotion's theme Great Job on the Design 😀

I don't really have a set story tbh.

I started foruming years a go. My first ever forum was a Nintendo forum where I ended up working as a article writer soon after. That forum closed and I was looking up forums when I came across FP. So that's when I joined back in 2012. It wasn't until 2013 when I had my first forum. It was called The Writeary. It was run on MyBB and it didn't do well at all haha. The main reason why I actually started a forum was because I saw other people doing it. I love managing forums, they are a great hobby in my opinion.

It started as a hobby in middle school/early high school, didn't have much else going on in life and had a lot of free time so I started posting on forums. As I got on more forums and made friends, I realized I could make my own community (partially because some forums I was on had bad moderators/admins running it).

I started running forums as a hobby and for fun and that's why I do it today. I don't profit and usually lose money on my projects, but they're fun. If it stops being fun, I'm going to stop doing it.

I think a lot of it has to do with power. It's the power to shape your website how you want it. The power to change it as it grows and maybe even close it. You have a level of control that you don't have as a member.

Even being a Moderator lets you get close to the Admin's ear. You might not be able to make changes overnight, but at least you have an attentive audience that you might not have as a new or regular forum member. Again, it's that power and control you gain as an Admin/Mod to create something great that makes being a Mod fun.

I say power as in ability, not in the sense of power tripping.

I used to want to own a community just for fun. Now I want nothing to do with that. I got the experience and honestly didn't care for it. It took time away from my wife and kids seeing as I came to an impasse. I could either ignore my family and work on advertising my forum and promoting it. Or...I could be with my family. My family was more important so I chose that over a forum which meant my forum was deleted.

I guess when I started discovering stuff online (mostly anime junk when I started) I wanted to do it too. Grew from there. XD I guess mostly cause its fun.

I got started in the early 2000s. I came across a forum, hosted by ProBoards, and was like, "Cool! I want to do this." From there, I joined ProBoards support and found several active graphic and Web design forums during that time. Solid Snake Designs, now closed, was amongst the many that I frequented. I didn't really get my start in the niche and foruming until I landed at SSD. I've been on forums and designing since then.

In the 90s, I got a WebTV. WebTV for those of you who never heard of it was later named MsnTV, it was basically a box that allowed you to do most of things a computer would do but on your TV. A lot of computer features were not included though like most downloading, CD rom and such but it was cool for the time...

I was a young kid in the 90s so it was neat to me. I found html (back before CSS even) and started coding really generic websites. Some told me about Pro Boards later on and I made my first forum... I actually thought boards were topic so I'd make hundreds of boards confusing them as topics LOL I finally figured out I was wrong...back when I used Pro Boards, my forum was on 'Sever 1', that is how long ago that was lol.

I finally found PhpBB-1 and went to that using a paid hosting service with subdomain support but eventually paid for a .com which back then was WAY more expensive than it is now and got paid hosting, again, way more expensive than it is now.

From there, it grew to now. Now I own many domains, dedicated servers and so on...

That is my story! 🙂

I been members on allot of forums, and spent hours supporting and active in my early days. one day I got promoted to a Mod for being helpful active and supporting. spent over a year as an mod, I left since the owner of the forum was very disrespected person and not very active guy and I had it with the crap.

For 5 years I wanted to create and build my own Community, spent hours studying certificate one to three in Information tech, that lead me with more knowledge on websites. With websites that I'm members too it get worst or shutdown or whatever and I thought, I should start doing what i dream to do. one day I spent the cash and it began

i hate my job now, so i move on to another field! 🙂 I'm working in logistics field, got some position, got about 3k USD per month, but i just don't fell like it, so i'm going to quit. I'm gonna make it quick! 🙂
