Goes without saying AI has rapidly invaded a lot of stuff this year and keeps on growing, I'm sure it won't be long till it gets on forums. Curious on what other people think of AI joining as regular members and just posting as if they were humans?

Or even worse, if AI is used with spambots and can bypass any website anti-spam methods.

AI could be a good option since you could generate name of forum and description for the forum and description for some categories if you have lack of idea but it has his price of cost like rytr me.

I could see IPB and Xenforo adding that, either lead to some hilarious sites or souless stuff.

AI could have a profound impact on the forum world but not in the obvious way. I would be wary of using it as a content generator other than perhaps as a novelty item. However if used as a tool there are so many possibilities.
  • Content translation.
  • Predictive search.
  • Similar threads (that actually are similar).
  • Predictive text.
  • Grammar and thesaurus.
  • Moderation.
  • Spam control.
  • Accessibility options for the visually impaired.

IPB already has AI moderation tools for their cloud hosted communities. The AI can detect adult content in images and block it. It’s coming!

Code Forum is currently working with ChatGPT to help coders with some of their questions. However, anytime it replies, it will be labelled as a bot, so folks will know that it's an AI. We do have some concerns about it being overused so we started experimenting with different restrictions etc.

Has it given wrong advice yet?

Nothing so far. It also depends on what/how you ask, for example if you say “build me a calculator” without any additional specifics it will provide the code but may not be what you expect.

But if you provide more details like “build me a calculator using Python that can be used in the console” I found it would provide more accurate answers.

I thought you were talking about @Al for a second 😛

AI-members would be horrible. Keep them far away from forums. It ruins the entire purpose.

I've used it on a couple forums. On one forum they've got a forum set up where you can post a thread asking for a picture of something and it'll reply with what it thinks is the best picture.

It would be cool to see AI be used more but not just as a way so people don't have to figure things out on their own such as descriptions to forums. I would prefer it be used for fun purposes.

On my blog there's an AI option but I've only used it once and wrote in the post that it was AI writing the content.

It could have both directions either add value to your forum or even if there kind of AI-generated content on threads that will decrease forum revenues especially use of Quillbot or Rytr Me or any AI generator of content.

Clearly my question is too late, what sites are using AI? 😵
