When do board warnings expire?

I currently have it set on my forum for board warnings to expire in a week.

I have mine set to expire within the hour or normally right away.

I don't have an expiration set. I'll lower a user's warn level if they show signs of improvement though.

I rarely ever have to issue a warning though.

I have no warning system in place, I don't think there's need for such.

I usually never let them expire. They're almost always still relevant and still influencing my moderation, so I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be active and shown to all the mods.

Never, but they can be lowered by staff if behavior improves.

A week seems kind of short to me. It should be something more like six months.

Most forums who actually use their warning systems will issue bans depending on how many warning points a member has earned. How could anyone ever earn enough points to be banned if their warnings go away so quickly? Seems like people could get away with breaking the rules there over and over again, if they time it out right. 😛


Anyway, I don't really use the warning system that much. I prefer to handle things through the PM system. Talking things out and whatnot. Official warnings just seem to agitate & anger the rule breaker and make them want to act out even more.

It depends on the warning to be quite honest. 😛 However in general, my warnings never expire. I don't see the point in letting them expire; if they do expire it will still be in the user's log's (depending on the softwares moderation system) or "past warnings" so letting them expire won't do anything other than shave off a few points on their current status.
