Certain forum software will allow you to make it where a posted link will show the title, not the URL link. I think that's a better way. How about you? Also, it lessens the need for SEO optimized URLs (one with the title in the URL).

The only problem with this is that if you're behind a Cloudflare, then it'll give away your origin server's IP Address allowing people to attack it directly rather than having Cloudflare absorb the brunt of the attack.
Beyond that, many of these systems masquerade as Chrome, etc. to get around blocks on unknown user agents, otherwise they can't get the information at all.
Also, be careful, as a bad actor might trick lots of sites into requesting resources from one site, which could theoretically result in enough load to take it down.
