How do you react when a member finds your Facebook profile and either 1) Friend Requests you or 2) Messages you?

If I know the person well enough from interactions on the forum, I generally will accept requests to communicate. Though in the last 3 years, I have had requests from people who I can only figure that wanted the contact, because they believed I potentially could help them if somehow they could show that they were "friends". Hate those types of people.

Unless I give out my social media, most people can not find me from the details they know from forums.

With Facebook that tends to be personal and not something I add just anyone to so a lot of the time, I keep that pretty quiet unless I know someone well enough.

If I were to get a random friend request from someone I know on forums, it would depend on how well I know them before I choose to accept or not.

Someone found me because of my photo. The weird thing is that he was considered a creeper on another forum and gleaned information on people to intimidate them. When he found me, he actually asked if it was okay that he wrote to me, and I told him I wasn't afraid of him. We've been friends ever since...but not "Facebook friends" because my friends there are afraid of him. Sometimes people just need someone nice to talk to.

Easy to find me even though my username is different and I also do not use my real name hahaha, but I'm not a fully personal active person anyway that would use it.

I stopped using Facebook some time ago because I was tired of how much information it collects about its users, so I'm not worried about this anymore.

I really don't mind, I actually have the same username everywhere. But I rarely accept friends on Facebook nor I send friend request to people. I normally have to know them personally.

I don't use Facebook to post personal things or share personal information.

Because of that, I added every real person requesting to be added.

I also do it to help with my job (local people adding that is). I work in an investigative environment. When conducting an investigation, social media provides a perfect opensource intel outlet. If you accept every request, it's easier to find social media information about people in an investigative scenario. 🙂

I would have to know them well enough to add them. I might add them if they have friends in common. (just depends)

Just reminded me I need to do some clean up of my fb.

Facebook got rude with people who just want to waste some time with you without giving more details. For them, they have a ready perspective just to establish friendship and send unrespectful messages that could not be labeled there. There is more professional tools like google talk to establish commercial discussions.

Unfortunately, it's going to be impossible for anyone on forum to locate any of my social media handles. This is because I don't put that information on forums. But let's assume that I have my Facebook details on a forum, I'm the one who asked for it. I wouldn't have any problems accepting their friend's request or replying their DMs.
